i know people are sick of hearing it but James Beattie was a guest on sky and he was asked about leaving united and he said "it was a shock to be leaving united i didn't expect it but i had to deal with it". He has no need to say that if it isn't true if he wanted to leave then he would of said "i was given the chance to play in the premier league again and couldn't turn it down". just shows that he obviously didn't want to leave and was probably forced out.

Q the financial thing again from people i know one fact could of done with him last night

Dave, punctuation is your friend.

PR is one of Beattie's main skills. He is very, very good at always saying the right thing and knew just when to make an ill-fated 50 yard dash to close down a 'keeper for the maximum applause from the crowd.

Not many players will ever take 40k a week out of a football club that couldn't afford it and be so universally well thought of by the fans.

Maybe we should offer him a job?

well I guess he's not going to sit there and say 'My agent pressed for a pay rise when the club had already said they'd look at the situation in the Summer and weren't therefore prepared to meet my demands. The club then accepted a bid from Stoke who, incodentally, are paying me what my agent asked for'.

Maybe he didn't want to leave, I think he was happy being a big fish in a little pond but to come over as the injured party in this is a bit much.

With you Dave and it didn't surprise me when he said it. It is well known that BT didn't want to leave and Blackwell didn't want to sell him.

McCabe did it from upstairs to reduce the wagebill that was in his opinion crippling the club.

If BT had been pressing for a rise or his agent, surely he would have kept his head down and said nothing. He didn't want to leave and we sold our Premiership ambition when we sold him. 20 goals per season guaranteed. I don't know what the books looked like at that point but it is the one bit of business we did that really makes me shake my head. You don't sell your best player in January if your genuine aspiration is going up do you?

And thats from someone who is generally supportive of McCabe. He gets most things right but that wasn't one of them.

Oh and on the big fish thing. He looked after the younger players at the club, those who aren't on massive wages. He always put in for private appearances in his own time and anyone who has ever spoken to the bloke couldn't help but see he liked it at BDTBL. I don't see him as a big fish in a small pond, more an expensive car that you perhaps couldn't afford in the first place.

That's the nub of it. Whether he liked it here or not we couldn't afford him in the first place and we certainly couldn't afford to keep him.

Is it? Was it the signing on fee from Stoke he wasn't keen on? Did he not fancy the Premier League?

He might not have been actively pushing for a move (or he might have) but to say it's well known that he didn't want to leave just isn't true.

One of the main points to remember in this is.... James Beattie has never wanted to leave a club, he's said the same everywhere...

Has he been forced out of every club he's played for? Against his will?

I think not.

He didn't want to leave us, he wanted to stay, but on the condition he got more wages and a further extended contract.

Never mind punctuation, plain bloody english would help.

Did Beattie turn down the move? He has a 3 year contract and could have stayed put, since he love the club that much. The fact that he didn't tells you all you need to know.

didn't realise it was an english lesson. sorry don't agree that he wanted to leave

I don’t think anyone’s saying he was actively pushing for a move. But you seem to be suggesting that Beattie was forced out, which I don’t agree with at all.
