Thanks for those of you that have thanked me. I enjoyed reading Deadbat's reports and fans reports go into much more detail and offer a different perspective than you may have got in the media. I'm happy to share my thoughts, as I know fans cannot make every game (particularly myself).

Responding to a few comments:
- Tranmere there for the taking? Possibly. But they had the better chances and probably edged the contest. Was it a decent away point or 2 points lost? Depends on whether you're a half full or half empty person (imo). I would have taken it before the game, but was slightly disappointed after.
- Maguire's distribution: needs to be worked on. The rest of his game is excellent. Part of it is that he doesn't always have options (midfielders and defenders need to work harder to create more space) and part of it is just routine or instructions. The latter could be easily sorted.
- The spine not good enough: Simmo, Collins, Monty (and Doyle) and Cresswell were poor last year. However they are under a new manager and in a lower division. Can they cut it? The evidence thus far suggests yes. All of them have played at a higher level, but they are all ageing. None of them are particularly athletic, but perhaps they have other qualities. Simmon was excellent on Sat, Collins has been a revelation so far, Monty does a job and Cresswell gets himself in the position to score. Perhaps we should worry about other positions. I agree with Mic that we need more pace, athleticism and dynamism in the team (it would have helped on Sat) but perhaps we should fill the rest of the team with this.
- Wilson (and Barlow): the doubters are waiting to pounce, but he has done little wrong so far. We said he needed a good start and he has surpassed all expectations. If we can take 4 points from the next two games, then that would take us into 2 very tricky games unbeaten and on a roll. September will be fairly tricky, but October looks awful. If we can be one of the front runners and take confidence and form (and a winning meantality and habbit) into October then we could come out as promotion contenders. Too early to tell indeed, but positive signs so far.

Cheers ollle great report better than the green un and thats a quid now, sick of seeing in of the post with UNITED and wendy fans going on about which is the biggest club, so I don't bother to read those letters simple as, but don't stop getting paper! So keep up the good work please! OLLE and DEADBAT

At the risk of opening up a can of worms....

Can someone enlighten me about this whole "hoof" thing? I think it started up when I was on holiday so I missed it all. I assume it is a means of Ollie getting at people who allegedly favour long ball tactics via use of heavy irony, but more details would be appreciated :-)

On this Olle do you think Mendez Laing would have been a better option than Willo to start with?

Mendez may not have good or great games prior to sat, but he certainly stretches the opposition’s defenders and certainly can tire out our opposition’s players. Willo is a good midfielder but he's certainly not a right winger from kick off, yet in the Walsall game after 50 odd minutes the Walsall full backs lacked much in their fitness tanks, making Willo an inspired sub and him being fresh and a tricky player gave their tired legs something new to deal with certainly had positive effects. I personally think we should use our wide players like Laing and Flynn to cause teams problems first and tire them out, rather than start with Willo on the right.

A decent attacking midfielder and consistent winger would make a massive difference to this team. There's going to be a lot of games like Saturday when one bit of quality will win us the game. The Monty / Doyle partnership offered little going forward (Monty's goal apart) and I suppose McDonald will more than likely replace one of them this season but we're still lacking that bit of attacking drive that woukld make the difference.

That wasn't actual my post Jim I clicked the wrong button, whilst trying to quote Olle, it's now above.

Is anyone really for hoof ball though?

Not sure anyone has ever said just lump the ball up to Cresswell or whoever.

Its factions and groups within groups. A bit like the Labour party of the early 1980's as it goes.

I think this Ron Paul/Michael Foot thing has touched a nerve, but we should probably keep it where it belongs.

No, I think that Wilson probably got this right. I think he was right to pick Doyle and Williamson. Don't get me wrong, I am not a massive Doyle fan and Willo is not a winger. However, on merit, they both deserved to start.

However beech, I think he could have introduced Menez Laing earlier. He could have switched Willo inside and taken Doyle off, or simply brought Williamson off and brought on the pacey winger. In the second half it clearly was not working and perhaps pace would have stretched Tranmere. That said, Slew is quick and he rarely threatened. Wilson brough Porter on to try and hold up the ball, as we really struggled to hold onto it.

These situations are always difficult. If Williamson did not play Willo or Doyle after Tue, then they must be left wondering what the hell they need to do to get in the team. Whereas Laing may have played poorly and still gets a start. Does not set a good precedent. So the basic answer is that (I think) Wilson got his team selection right. That said, I would prefer to see Williamson in central midfield.

an issue which was not apparent in the academy at all.

He always liked a long pass forward, it's just it usually ended up finding one of the strikers/wingers.

It's not just the 'contentious' words in this report that's brought it to a head though is it? As you well know.

If you stuck to the football rather than trying to get a rise, people would read a lot more of what you post and rightly so!

Well, that's a matter for debate on it's own. Shed thread, anyone?

Personally I like to read match reports, and yours are usually pretty good even if the reader doesn't agree with every word, but all this hoof/rapfa bollocks is tedious in the extreme.

Let's give you an allegory, as you seem to like them a lot. You go on Question Time and give all the politicians of every colour a damn good grilling, totally outsmarting them at every opportunity. Great so far. But then you drop your trollies and curl down a big Mr. Whippy of a steamy turd right under Dimbleby's nose. Nobody will be talking about the political debate, they'll only want to discuss the big festering shite.

What Foxy said. Stick to the football discussions and perhaps you might gain a few admirers rather than just the guy in the mirror wearing the "look at me" t-shirt. Otherwise, all that will be discussed is the Question Time Shit.

thank god religion wasnt mentioned , apart from the Dutch Latter day mormon football team that did so well in 74
thanks to the inspiration from baby Jesus, and a strong left wing Nederlands government

Nice one SV. Although I don't agree and think the reaction is over the top, it made me smile.

Olle  metaphors :D
