David Weir would assess that as;

"We were in it up until the 4th goal, we had our chances but didn't take them, so we're disappointed with the result"

Germany is everything England should be but isn't.....

I don't think i've ever seen a centre back performance quite as bad as David Luiz's ever before. He was fucking awful.

Mark Blount? Steve Bruce? Neil Collins?

Nope, at least they'd all stand at the correct end of the field. Luiz is our winner.

Boring match, over by 30 minutes, disappointing. Brazil like watching Baaaaaarnsley

David Luiz never has been, and never will be a Centre Half,He's a very good midfielder.
Surely Brazil should have a capable regular central defender in reserve ?
Anyway a team with players called 'Fred','Hulk','Oscar','Jo' and 'Bernard',should be treated with some sceptercism ? :p

The Germans did to Brazil what the Hungarians did to England ,all those years ago. I rather feel that the ex samba boys will come good again quicker than England did after the Hungarian rout In fact when I think about it, we are still waiting for our national team to come up with the goods..

You're obviously not thinking about us winning the World Cup then. If that's not coming up with the goods I don't know what is.

Since the Hungary defeat in 1953, England has produced 5 world class players (Banks, Moore, Charlton, Gascoigne, Lineker). These brought about the 1966 win and good performances in 1970 and 1990. Everything else has been just hype. Countless premier league superstars who were way short at international level (Waddle, Barnes, Ian Wright and dozens of others).

Premier league hype begins again in a few weeks time. I think that "the best league in the world" has only 3 of the world's best players (Aguero, Toure, Suarez). Everything else is just self interest and a fast buck.

Nailed. One thing I would say though. Winning a world cup isn't about producing the worlds best players, what the Germans do so well is produce teams proud to wear the shirt. This current team has been 8 years in the making. With the exception of Neuer I don't think their team looks like a world beating one. Difference is they play for the shirt with pride. They play for their clubs with pride. Of course they get paid handsomely but the wage capping system in Germany means no one gets the ridiculous wages that players like Rooney earn. £350k per week to be nothing more than pretty good? Shweinsteiger is twice the player Gerrard and Lampard have ever been but I bet he doesn't earn as much, nor does he court the media in his every movement.

They are national stars but not global stars. The german team is the ultimate backing for the saying "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts".

EPL is the death of our game. I don't expect it to change but then again I don't expect England to improve until it does.

I think its safe to say that Brazil did Nazi that coming...

I'd add Keegan late 70s, Shearer mid 90s, possibly Robson early 80s. Agree with your overall point though.

One of the main reasons Germany do so well is that a lot of the players play together week in week out at club level too!

Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Muller all play together at club level and Khadeira, Ozil and Klose played together there with the rest for many years.

That's eight players that know each others games inside out and lots that came through all the german youth teams together. The fact that a top, top club is willing and able to invest so heavily in home grown talent is a model which is to be desired - sadly no Premier League club will think like this, escpecially now it is just a playground for foreign owners who really couldn't give a flying toss about the England national team.

We have won the under 17's championship twice in the last four years along with a semi final appearance - we compete at that age group no probelm, it is what happens to these promising young players that is the problem. That problem is the Premier League.

Well Liverpool have half this England team, doesn't seem to make any difference. Fundamentally it's talent, those Liverpool players all play together, but when someone like Gerrard is the main man you can see the problem because he's not a world class player, and the same goes for the rest of them.

The thing with the German team over the years is their game management skills. They have players with the mentatlity and understanding to manage any game to their advantage. No panic if they are under pressure for a time, just a knowledge of what they need to do to change that, or ride it out. Whether it was Loew another coach or just the players themselves, the obvious weakness of Brazil last night (down their left) was identified, the formation tweaked slightly (Muller went much wider) and you got 25 minutes of carnage.

I thought against Italy the fact that Sterling and Sturridge knew each others games worked wonderfully. If it is just down to talent then why do we reach finals and win competitions at younger age catergories?

The point with Germany is these players grew up together and have had between four and six seasons playing together at the highest level. The Liverpool model is the one positive for England and the development of the team going forwards.

That's better than Sechs! Shouted schurrle as he banged in the winner
