It's all about the center backs........isn't it?

Don't get it.

We sign CHs. In theory we stop, ok reduce, conceding. That moves us up the first half table, the second half table, and the Division 3 table all at once. Doesn't it?
Maybe, if you want to risk relying on that and hope that it's enough to get you over the line. All the genuine promotion contenders have similar form in the first and second half. Why would you choose to play another way, even if you don't care for entertaining many of your fans? Why would you not try and win both halves?

We aimed to have decent centre backs this season. We failed, for numerous reasons that could reoccur. You stack the odds in your favour, by addressing each weakness that's identified, not by being so strong in other areas so as to compensate for it.

So what are the "hypotheses":

1) We try to hang on to 1-0 leads
2) We wait till we go behind and then start attacking
3) Centre halves are not an issue
4) Centre halves are an issue
5) other

A candidate for the "other" section has to be that we have not had a settled side, selection policy has been a problem all season, a team develops far more consistency with consistency of personnel.

I agree generally (especially txtspk ...) but it does puzzle me why people get so defensive about it, as if it actually isn't that important.

Which I think it is but then that's just my generation I guess

Pick holes in the point by all means but making your point via someone else's lack of grammatical skill is not needed. We are here because we all support the same football team, not because of our English grading.

So tell me are you right or wrong?

Afaict someone's is right bc it's a possessive indefinite pronoun.

Possessive (definite?) pronouns such as its (this is the one where you can really score some pedantry points) and yours, and perhaps more obviously hers and his, don't take a possessive apostrophe.

Still don't understand this. Solid defence moves us up all three tables regardless of tactics?

So would signing Lionel Messi. But he might break his leg, or even be too expensive! :)

As I've said, it's about stacking things in your favour. Unless anyone believes that the qulity of centre halves is somehow linked to the time of the game.

It's clear as day to me, so I guess it's me who doesn't get your point.

It wasn't me that did that - I was just responding to someone else's post. It was they doing the picking, not I.

Indeed but it was your post I was responding to :)

Probably bad grammar on my part!!
