Lee HendrieNew Blades signing Lee Hendrie says he can't wait to get his United career up and running after completing his move to Bramall Lane.

The industrious midfielder, who has signed a three-year deal with the Blades on Thursday, believes that United have all the ingredients to bounce back into the Premiership at the first attempt.

Hendrie said: "It's really exciting. Yes, everyone wants to be a Premiership player, but Sheffield United is a massive club and a club that's going places - it's exciting times. I fancy us to go up this season."

The former England international, who was at Villa Park for 13 years, says that Bryan Robson's influence was a major factor in joining the Blades.

He continued: "I met up with the Gaffer in the week and he gave me some good vibes. He's a great guy and meeting up with him made my mind up for me. Bryan has great ambition - I was speaking to him about this season coming up and he wants to get the club back where it belongs."

Hendrie is delighted with the security that a three-year contract provides him, having spent this summer fretting over his immediate future following his release by Aston Villa.

"I'm pleased with that - three years is superb to be honest and I'm not getting any younger!"

He continued: "I realised that I wasn't going to be signing at Villa again. Bramall Lane isn't a million miles away from the Midlands and I'm just buzzing for a new start."

Hendrie, who won a solitary England cap in a 2-0 friendly win against the Czech Republic in 1998, hopes to make an impact for United.

He added: "The Gaffer will be great to learn off - he knows the midfield inside out - and he'll give me the right advice. He's told me that he wants me to get forward a lot and create.

"I'm looking to go out there, score goals and get the club back where it belongs, but it's not just about myself, it's about the team - we have a solid squad here and the Gaffer's on about bringing more players in."

sounds promising, looks like we are making the right moves forward

I am really excited bout this season, dont think i have read and heard so many united fans actually optimistic :)

Its a refreshing change to be honest, before I found this site I read a lot on Blades United from the official site and Jeez can some of that lot really get you down - its like something's sucked all the optimism and passion out and replaced it with sarcasm, and god forbid you ever have an opinion on there....

good signing, bring in another midfielder and a center half as theres no pace with morgz and lucky. its coming together nicely!

we should try for scott sincalir hes fast and think hes surplus at chelsea, played well at plymouth

plus webber can play on the wing

Does he play right wing?

That would be a good shout from what little i have seen of him.

webber can play on the wing. warnock chose not too

From what I have seen, Sinclair is far from surplus to requirements, but being hpyed for an amazing future with Chelsea

I personally don’t think that Webber is creative enough or has the crossing ability to play on the flank. Also, I would worry about the defensive side of his game - we all know how Geary likes to bomb down the wing and that could leave us short if Danny starts to drift into the centre out of habit.

Add to that the fact that Danny is a centre forward and the days of square pegs for round holes should be behind us.

I would more likely have him on left, I remember back in the 05/06 season when he caused no end of problems for opposition players in that position.

But with Squinny,Hendrie and perhaps Tongey i would have thought the left side of midfield was more then covered.

I suppose its an option.

I'd be more inclined to chuck Hendrie in to the centre.

With Tonge and Squinny, we seem to have 2 players who no longer have confidence to take a man on.

Don't get me wrong, they are both good players on their day, but Tonge's day seem to be longer and longer away, and Squinny needs more match practise and a bit more flair

It would appear that many do see Hendrie as a central midfielder and so in that scenario i would imagine webber is a viable choice down the left flank.

I agree that Squinny lost form after a bright start but i think Tonge has been steadily getting back to somewhere near his best (he has some way to go yet).

The one thing that is for sure is that we have a lot of options for every position (except right wing) and this can only be a good thing.

Wonder if Robson will give me a trial? I can play right wing :D

But, we do have Fathi (although played left wing against worksop) and Keef for said position
