…our Board would declare that the transfer window is now closed as far as we are concerned. No sweating it out until September, we just aren’t selling. No point making any offers because we are serious promotion contenders and our business strategy is to make it back to the Prem with an exciting squad of players that will secure our financial future. We can do this :)

Stop worrying. Who on earth would want Berge Ndiaye or Anel? Only Championship players.
I get the ‘we are a business’ line of argument but surely, just this once, we can make a statement that the club is investing in the future rather than selling for the present.

Why would they do that?

Why would they do that?
Because it would be a statement of confidence and intent of pursuing a strategy of long term growth rather than our historical, failed experiment of selling our way to success?

Okay, so you live in a house and you love where you live. You've told everyone you know that you won't be moving. Its market value is 100k, I'm willing to pay you a million pounds for your house. You can't turn that down as it'll change your life, make your business better, kids lives better etc.

Same principle.

No it really isn’t the same principle. That’s confusing and conflating life experiences with what is basically an entertainment industry. I support my club for the entertainment value. I want my club to commit to, where possible, optimising those entertainment opportunities and not be simply be profit motivated.

I get the sentiment but is there any football club truly able to shut up shop? Let alone a football club not even in the top flight?

At least one of our players has an automatic release clause. If another club meets that clause, we can't reject it. We'd look absolute idiots trying to be bullish and send a message to the rest of the division only for a bigger club to push the button just before the window closes.

Every other one of our players is for sale if the right offer comes in. That's true of 99.9% of players at 99.9% of clubs for 99.9% of the time.

If you want reassuring, I don't think we are one sale away from derailing our season. We've got a very strong base of a squad which will only get stronger as games are played and as injured players return.

Relax and enjoy the ride.

If another club come in and offer United silly money for one of our players then Utd would be just as silly if they didn't accept that offer. Everyone has a price and everyone is a selling club unless your Man City or PSG. I don't want any of our better players to leave but come on, if someone was to offer £35m for Ndiaye then we would be fkin soft in the head not to accept. Berge could.go also but I hope the club refuse any offer unless it's the £35m contract release offer and nothing less. The trick is to only sell if the offer received is too good. In the past we have sold our better players for ten bob and a conker. Nowadays I expect is to get top dollar if we sell. Therein is the difference. Hopefully no one goes though and we can really give it a shot for promotion this season. Sell only for silly money offers.

It works if you downsize but most people are looking to “move up” so your inflation also applies to your next buy.

You think the people buying a sports club are only in it for the entertainment and not the money? Even if they are in it for the money, its a ridiculous way to try and make money.

Not many clubs can turn down big offers.

Cant do it.
But it certainly strengthens our negotiating position being up there.

Ok guys and girls, I graciously concede the debate. It was naive of me to think that maybe after decades of supporting the Blades and watching is selling Jones, Birchenall, Sabella, Beattie, Fjortoft, Deane et al, ad nauseum to zero tangible benefit that a slightly tongue in cheek post suggesting that maybe we may do things differently would be taken so literally :) You are right, of course, it would be insane to sacrifice millions of pounds of profit in pursuit of existential benefit of a half decent football team.

Still looking forward to a great season with an exciting squad. UTB!

Everyone knows Berge has a price, it's down to whether anyone makes the kind of offer we can't refuse. In fairness to the board, when did we last have a major outgoing? Holding onto Berge as long as we have is a positive.

Ramsdale to arsenal when we pulled their pants down for 30m £££

I believe your club has done exactly what you want from them already. They have smiled knowingly at derisory bids so far, and not just for Berge either. Their attitude can in no way be compared to former owners of the same ‘business’.

Hit the release clause requirement, or don’t waste time with a phone call. Seems pretty clear to me. 🤷‍♂️

Not only the money offered but also the question of how much will be reinvested and which players might be available at what price , in order to replace the one sold.
If we are still top on 1st Sept , we've a better chance of no players having departed.

As someone selling my used boxers on facey to perverts so i can buy Imrans chicken and chips once a week for my daughter i can't really knock princey.
I'd sell Berge if i could buy her a drink to go with it tbf.

They aren't. If a big offer comes in, it will help secure our current position and future.
A club weighed down with debt will struggle to offer the things you want, and we all want.

Not when you know keeping your house will generate you 5 times as much cash in 9 months time

The business decision may be the same as we would all want.

Glad that Mccabe has nowt to do with the club now. you can bet your life he would have sold Sander.
