I find it interesting that people think that we are punching above our weight and yet the pigs just have a bad manager and players that should walk this division.
I think their squad is unbalanced and they have multiple players who if using the same reasoning have been punching above their weight for the last 2 seasons and maybe they have run out of steam.
These guys are the backbone of their team and really achieved nothing in their careers until the last few years.
Westwood -
Lees - Free
Loovens - Free
K Lee - Free (from Oldham used to be a right back)
Wallace - Free
Hutchinson - Free
Bannon - Free (never achieved his potential until playing for the pigs)
Now I imagine that these players are in no way earning anywhere near what Forestieri , Hooper, Fletcher, Rhodes, Reach etc. are earning which as Wilder pointed out in the summer causes it's own problems. With the exception of Hooper and Forestieri, the others have done nothing to justify their wage compared to the backbone of their team. I am not sure if people are aware, but Wednesday have not sold one player for cash since the new chairman came, so their squad hasn't been refreshed, just added to.
Now our squad was built with balance in mind. Wilder had a plan and won't purchase anyone which will cause disharmony because of their wages. Wilder has said that he wants to get rid of some players in January whilst bringing in 3 to 4 players to improve the 1st 11. Wednesday have said there won't be much changes which means no outgoings to make way to freshen up a squad.
We are not punching above our weight, we had players who like Wednesday have either previously under achieved here or elsewhere (Duffy, Coutts, Clarke, Wright for example) and young players that been allowed to blossom in a carefully constructed plan, O'Connell, Fleck., but there will be no sentiment. There won't be any expensive signings on inflated wages to upset what we have but when needed Wilder will move players in and out to keep on improving what we have.
