It’s Never too early to be Top

I just looked at Oddschecker and was surprised to see that we’re joint favourites for promotion with Norwich at 11/8. I know we’re top and playing well so that shouldn’t be a surprise, but I always assume it won’t last 🙂
As with every season, I'll start looking upwards when we have 52pts on the board.

Including the customary Warnock Jan/Feb blues of three or four consecutive defeats. Always seemed to happen, however we were doing!

Uncle Neil needed to top up the brown paper bag again after an expensive Christmas 🤔

I think there’s some conflation of issues here - racism definitely requires a racial/ethnic element. It can’t just be about nationality (that’s xenophobic), geographical area etc. Saying (for example) that Norfolk is a backwater full of inbred weirdos is not nice, it’s prejudiced, discriminatory and hateful (if delivered with any venom or hate), but it’s not racist.

Hate is hate - so I’m not advocating any such behaviours. But I think one of the key differences is that ragging on a neighbouring city/area can still be done in jest as long as everyone is having a laugh. I enjoy the odd dig at some Barnsley folk about having 6 fingers (and the like) but I deliver it when I’m with my mates from that neck of the woods so I know they get the spirit of it, and I know full well they’ll give as good as they get.

Conversely - racism in the UK has reached a point where you don’t joke about it, doesn’t matter if it’s well intentioned. I’m not knocking that because far too many actually hateful people try to disguise their racist bigotry with “humour”. Better to throw the racist jokes baby out with the racist bathwater.

Tittering at myself for accusing people of “conflating issues” whilst I’m posting in the wrong thread. Utter knobhead.

Being top can be a driver for our season. How many on Saturday evening were gutted we’d been briefly knocked of the top of the league. To my surprise I was and couldn’t wait for the Hull game for a chance to get back to the top. I can only imagine the players pretty much feel the same and with Norwich snapping at our heels, it can only help our performances on the pitch.

Thing is whilst we are doing well and we have played a few tough oppenents etc.

We still have yet to play Norwich, Burnley and West Brom in the league.
By the time the WC break happens we will have played 21 games in theory and also will have played nearly everyone.

But this WC break concerns me. For a start players like N'Diaye may well be going and we don't want to see any injuries or in some ways him get too much spotlight!
Also if we keep this form or relative form going when the season resumes a month later it's almost like a new season again. Momentum good or bad and teams will look at it as a fresh start again.
Normally they say Christmas is key and how you are doing around that time is a good indication. I'm saying a month later when the restart has had good time to settle.
Also the transfer window will be shut and we will know if we are feeling strong in the squad etc.

As a Blade of nearly 50 year,s being top at this stagee can only mean one thing.
Theres plenty of time left for us to fuck up royally!!!

Away at Coventry was a match to forget. Woeful from start to finish.
