We created a little corner for away fans thus taking away their support behind the goal.
Create a secure corner between John Street and Lane end

Other clubs do it and we should not longer allow them behind the goal in the lower tier. They shouldn’t be allowed in the upper as an alternative. Cram em in the corner taking up just a small section of the Lane end

May cost a bit but if this can’t be done we need to find a way use a small section of John Street but let’s banish em from behind the goal

Im sure everyone has thoughts on this

I thought you are meant to give away fans in the premier league 3k or as near as possible.

So how little is this corner?!

Don't you need around 10% allocation and do the corners have this capacity? The Puka-pie corner, or whatever it's called certainly doesn't have this.
Also how are you securing the entry/exit of this stand away from leaving home fans?

True…..the Premier league rule is you must give away fans 10% of your capacity or 3,000 tickets….which ever is lower.

If you offer less than 3,000 then you have to prove to the PL why there’s no alternative place based on safety grounds.
Our bottom tier used to hold 2,950 the first time we were in the PL…now due to emergency exit steps being put in it’s been reduced 2,725.

The Bramall Lane area is the best part of the ground for the police to safely organise them.

The best solution is to eventually build an upper tier behind the current South stand and put the away fans in most of that.
Will be like the Newcastle ground with away fans well away fro the pitch and not even visible on TV.
We could also still use Bramall Lane as an area to direct away fans into the South stand upper tier.

I'm not sure on if the EFL has rules around this, but the Premier League has rules (and has for nearly a decade) about positioning of away fans within grounds.

I don't see any way we can accommodate these rules, and relocate away fans elsewhere in the ground, without a significant rebuild of at least part of the stadium. This doesn't even begin to consider the other rules mentioned above regarding allocation requirements.

We'd have to knock down what is already there to make space. Which would mean moving the big screen too. Not worthwhile.

I really couldn't give a shit about away fans being behind a goal. I've only seen us play at one stadium where we weren't behind one (Blackpool), so it's not as if we're the exception.

Unless the club ownership announces plans to rebuild/expand the stadium, I highly doubt this is ever brought up as a serious topic of discussion.

I've said this before. There's no "banter" between away end and our singing section. At these new grounds - Pride Park, Riverside, Ricoh etc. the home singing section is always next to the away end.

Here's what i said previously:

"I sit in G Block on South Stand. I rarely hear the Kop sing. The only time singing seems to get going here is when H Block start singing “Sheff United, Hallelujah, Hallelujah”

My mates sit near front in Kop and often comment on the atmosphere being “great today”… not where I sit. Never heard a peep, other than the away end.

It’s just how the stadium is set up these days.

Main singing section is top left corner of Kop (shoreham view) territory.
That section probably makes up what, 5-10% of the Kop. If that’s all that sings 90% of the time it’s gonna be shite.

As an example. The minutes applause for Jonny the other night.
I saw the video on twitter his dad posted. They all sang “United love you more than you will know”, then a larger section of the Kop sang “He’s a blade”… neither song was heard where I sit.

The stadiums where you visit away and think the home fans were loud are places like Pride Park, where the singing section is bang next to the away fans.

I’m not suggesting we should move stadiums. I just think old style stadiums like ours have changed over the years."

If you want to hear the kop better, why not move to A block?
The configuration of the stadium seems fine to me, taking into consideration the away fans minimum allocation and giving home fans the best seats.

Agree somewhat with OP but also have some sympathy with having banter .

Why not trial , at the BL end , one row of away supporters, then a row of home supporters and so on . Atmosphere would be great , fans could be encouraged to line dance 🕺 and Mexican wave .

I’m up for it

Start with the Leeds game ?

All this to be coordinated by Crab 🦀 Industries

Depending which year but i think it was 2008 in that temporary stand, was a great day out. From memory I am sure both Crewe and Leyton Orient also are side on rather than behind the goal. But from OP for me I agree we shouldn't need to change anything. The system works

Also, don't provide a roof and dose the bar stewards in ice cold water at regular intervals!

The lane end lower is a shite view, so I can’t imagine it would be popular as a home end. We’d probably struggle to sell tickets there.

I think it will always be the away end until the day some major redevelopment work takes place.

Wherever they sit (particularly now though in Lane ene) I wish they would keep them behind for quarter of an hour to let majority of home fans desperse, every game it's wading through away fans coming at you in all directions, surely this isn't rocket science to the police

Put an upper deck on John Street and put the away fans in the left side of that, and we could encourage chabbies in the lower John St to chuck "slush" at em.

Shite idea and other clubs that do this have sold out and are adding to the sanitisation of football in general. Call me old fashioned but it should always be home team behind one net, and the away behind the other.
If we had away fans adjacent to home fans the authorities would insist on an enormous neutral zone in between and probably more stewards than away fans - I base this assumption on our away match at Derby. I was amazed at the number of stewards on each side of the United fans, so I counted them - 120+ - ridiculous

I don't want to hear them better. I'm too old for that shit hence why I'm on the South 🤣

I do think the atmosphere would be better if away fans were nearer the Kop though. As I have said in my post, I hear away fans more than home. That's probably because only a small section of our kop can even be bothered to sing

Crazy idea I'm afraid.
How big an area are you proposing?
How many stewards would you need to provide security?
How many seats would be taken up by the separation?
Where would the away fans go for food/drink and toilets?
How would you provide pre and after match security?

Not old fashioned enough..in my teens we used to share the home teams Kop.And iremember very well getting into ground to find The Kop full of oppo fans..

I actually suggested to corner off the KOP and South and let them have that. It could be purpose built to be it's own stand not sharing with others like the John Street and BL Corners.

The John Street corner is too small as it only holds about 900. Even if we blocked off the first block of John Street that connects to it, it would still be less than 2,000 so not feasible.

That's why I have suggested a new purpose built corner.
Until we build something new, they'll always be located on the lower tier... Partly because it's the worst stand too

I’d you move the away end to “a little corner” for example then you are possibly going to reduce matchday revenues into the club, because as things stand on most occasions we aren’t filling the ground anyway. It’s not as if - give them less seats to give us more = similar revenues

I’m always fascinated to hear this. It wasnt really a thing when I started going in 78.

I’ve heard they would go in early in order to take over.

What was it like walking up the steps on the kop looking to secure your usual spot only to find it was full of away fans. My adrenaline would have been absolutely pumping

Iirc Man U did it.....you would also get big mobs walking all the way around past the cricket pavilion to try and take the Kop.

It was like this feeling .....seeing Man U fans all over the Kop.

I remember the Leeds fans taking over the back of the kop sometime around 73/74. I ended up standing in front of them (where I normally did) with some friends and I was hit by a can thrown by a Leeds fan.
