Read he's expected to be around first team as cover this season so clearly has something about him.

A defender and holding mid fielder. A big part of the under 21's.

Lets leave signing ageing mediocrity to the Sheffield United we SHOULD be wanting to leave behind

Any player over 23 years old according to this forum is old...

I'm all for United looking to make the average age of the squad younger, but it's getting a bit silly if we start counting out players who are 28 or older as they are too old. Not so long ago, players were considered as being in their prime in their late 20s as they had been round the block, usually had settled down on a personal level and were still the right side of 30. You can give a 28 year old a 4 year contract and he will still be relatively up to speed at the ripe old age of 32!! It's not always about selling on value, sometimes we might actually need players for the here and now (and the next 4 years!). I'm not saying he's the man we need, it's more about potentially discounting players who are just coming into their prime.

We need numbers in CM and on a low budget someone solid, experienced and free like him should be considered

has the smell of legs of wood type signing this one.

12 games for Norwich last season is the alearm bell

Pior to that he looks the type we need playing in front of our back three

We make the premiership and start looking backwards to the lower leagues for players, Wilder did this and wasted shed loads on crap, half of which we can't offload for anything like we paid, that's half the reason why we're skint.

Not sure the club are looking at this lad. He was just suggestion from another poster on here. Nothing to suggest PH and co are interested in him in any way shape or form.

I would disagree with you re the 'looking backwards at lower league players' point. We cannot afford the finished article for PL standards so we need to use what we already have (to a point) and improve it with signings from overseas, loans, or players in British football already registered with clubs down the football league chain. The latter is an important part of the recruitment strategy I would have thought and will probably be based on younger players but I'm sure we as a club would look at it if a deal could be done for a top player at the right money from the FL. Nothing wrong with that strategy at all. The key is to blow your wad on the right players, players who fit into the team pattern and who can be coached to make even better players. For all of CWs strengths (and he has many) bringing players into the club for the PL seasons wasn't one of them (Oli Burke anyone!)

Totally agree. There are plenty of players in the EPL who were plucked from the EFL and have made the step up. In our 2019 promotion team nearly all the players stepped up in our first PL season, some who had come through from L1. The hard bit is identifying those players from other clubs who can make the step up and importantly not pay over the odds for them. Sadly although our existing players stepped up the ones we brought in didn't really plus in a number of instances we vastly over paid for them.

I’m not actually sure there are many hidden gems in the lower leagues these days. A lot of the better players arrived at their current clubs via PL academies where they were deemed to be not quite good enough. Category A academies snatch up the best from other academies. And PL scouting departments will be well aware of any who have slipped through the PL net one way or another. There is usually a good reason that EFL players are where they are.
