I know a few would have preferred that we had not sacked Clough and some others wanted Robinson but now we have Adkins. Is there anyone who is really against his appointment?

We need a poll, ADkins or Clough

Adkins for me, all day long and twice on sundays :p
That's right. Lets get another poll done! Then a follow up poll on whether these people were right to hold these views about not wanting Adkins.

The board have made the correct decision for club profile , players and fans .

Reading the statements from the Southampton fans . Let us hope our own Adkins statement in years to come is

What we are now , we owe to you.

True to say it's often good to remind yourself when things don't go so well, just how pleased you were on days like this.

I try not to fully judge a manager in his first year. So many players at his disposal are not of his own choosing.

Players want to play , and the players will want to play for Adkins . He will sort out the wheat from the chaff.

They'll be obvious as they'll call him Atkins. They would also be upset with Klopp (never managed in England), Mourinho (too dull), Wenger (never been promoted in his career) or Pellegrini (failed at Man City).

I always defended Clough on the basis that I thought we'd replace him with another middle of the road manager. This is now not the case and I think the board deserve a lot of credit. Whether this was the plan and NA was worded up beforehand we'll not be privy to but the way they have gone about the process has to be commended. Now find me something to moan about please I don't like this positivity!

Absolutely. I guess the board had a much better idea of what might come next which means we're not always well qualified to say whether a sacking was a good move or not. In retrospect it seems a tough move but hardly reckless, which is better than how I initially felt.

I don't think there is anyone against the Adkins appointment, which is why after over a decade this could be the first managerial appointment that has got people excited, this will help the atmosphere around the club.

I didn't agree with the Clough sacking but happy with the only one I wanted to replace him. I do think appointing any of the others in the frame would have been a backward step ,but happy with the new Nigel.
Another new Dawn.

I have been one of the more Clough aarrrgghhhttttt brigade cause I support the club not the incumbent manager. Nothing against him I was ecstatic with his 1st season in post and the glimmer of potential but it fell apart as subsequent transfer windows came and went and he failed to build a structured squad. Were his hands tied by the board? Was he banking on Ched? From comments made by McCabe and Phipps yesterday it appears not they were not happy on performance grounds, said NN found the job harder than he thought it would be.

So the answer to the OP is I'm not one of those who didn't want Adkins I'm delighted and excited with his appointment and what it might do for my team.

Credit to the board they have shown they've got what it takes and have (at a huge £cost) made 2 decisions to prove it. Nigel will be judge on his tenure because the board have done and committed to do their bit with restructuring funds and infrastructure investment.

I'm celibrated in the pub last night (think I had a bag of out of date pork scratching barrfff)

I was in the camp that would have given NC more time as I'm sick of the managerial merry-go-round we've had over the last few years. Having said that, if I was asked who my preferred option was to replace Mr Clough, Mr Adkins would have been on my shortlist of 1.

Delighted. Yesterday was a great day for football. Bollocks to FIFA, we got the right man and the (almost; probably as close as you can get) unanimous choice for once. To use the most extreme example, yesterday was the polar opposite of the day we appointed Robson! Lets be honest, I'm not sure we've seen a managerial appointment that unified fans as much as this one since at least the 1990s!

With the right backing (and I don't just mean money, although that is obviously one part of it) and a little luck the decisions made this off-season could (*could*) define us for decades.

I would have preferred for Mr Clough to be given a bit more time. That said the decision has been made and a solid appointment on paper made. More improtanatly it has been made in time to allow New Nigel to get to know the squad and also dip his toe (or whole leg) in the transfer market. He can start a fresh and on an even kiel with the rest of the league. This is much better than him coming in just before xmas with us x points of off the play offs and having to "make do" with someone else's squad.

Bring on a seaon of invincibles!

Delighted with the appointment. Not so delighted with the way some people have used it to take a pop at anyone who didn't think we should have sacked Clough or moreover anyone who showed dissent toward the board.

We all love the same club, we all want the same thing. Repeat to fade.

As I recall opinion was pretty unanimous that Weir was a good appointment :-)

My preference was Robinson. My friend is a Reading fan and he always seemed exasperated with Adkins. Not a fair judgement of a manager's career but that gave me a bit of a negative impression of him.

However, his record's outstanding. Back to back promotions with Southampton. Two promotions from our division with Scunthorpe. Considering the lack of resources Scunny have I think his achievements there might be more impressive.

Also, as people have said he's relentlessy positive and full of energy. I hope these are characteristics he instils in the team. The most disappointing thing about last season and Clough's time in general was the negativity. Adkins talked about exciting football and goals which is music to my ears. He is also definitely a manager who likes his teams to keep the ball on the floor.

It didn't go for him at Reading but most managers have at least one blip on their cv.

Eddie Howe springs to mind.

Though generally I think people who are "positive and full of energy" are twats, I'll give him a chance.
