The link to the Blades on the Sheffield Star website takes you to a page where the fist headlin is about the piggies beating MK Dons.Do they not realise how offensive that is to Blades fans or is their editorial team ignorant grunters.

How offensive is it to us bladesfans?

Maybe because when you look at a SUFC related site a story about the other Sheffield team is not what you might want to see first. Offensive may have been a bit too strong a term to use. My point was about editorial ignorance really.

pigs say exactly the same and quite frankly its pathetic from both sides

But the real point is we are top of the league and who cares about the Star, its a newspaper that is going nowwhere, the world wide web is killing it off.

They employ James Shield. I think that should answer your question.

A lot of the flak aimed at James Shield in the past has been due to sub editors who edit his copy, add the headings and write the captions to pictures (Nuddy anybody?). He's probably as frustrated as any of us when things are messed up.

As a matter of interest, have you ever met James Shield and had a chat with him?

You might be pleasantly surprised.

Defo biased towards the pigs, numerous examples of it over the years. Stupid? Yeah, financial suicide to alienate 50% of it's potential readership with it's obvious bias. How many Blades don't buy it because it's bias towards the pigs?

He could always go and get a job with a proper paper.

Truthfully, when you look at the standard of journalistic writing in the Stir (Dire) vs. Yorkshire Post (Poor) vs. a National title like the Guardian (Kind of OK). It is night and day. Shields articles always look like they were cut and pasted together from four emails about different subjects. Did he get a GCSE English? How the Stir manages to keep from having its doors close I have no idea.

I presume that James gets reasonably well paid for his work. Watch as many Blades games as you can, then write a couple of hundred cobbled together words that anyone could have written, in a style that is completely without style, wit, or interest. Maybe its harder than it looks? Maybe its just a nice steady way to pay the mortgage..?

Spot on my man.

Just the paranoid ones with little grasp of reality ;)

What? Base an opinion on something or someone I actually know or have met? Have you ever read this forum?

There's a perfect example of this in today's Star:-

http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foot..._defender_in_time_for_terriers_test_1_3764473

The headline refers to Marcus Williams, while the accompanying picture shows Quinn and Alan Knill from their Rotherham days.
Halfway through the article it throws in a random reference to Quinn and Knill, presumably to fit in with the picture?
Either that or the article has been recycled from the Scunthorpe preview?
I don't know if it's Shield or the sub-editor but it still looks bizarre.

Hardly a case of bias or the skys falling in though is it? If I'm going to get my knickers in a twist it won't be over average local jounalism.

You're right mate. I was on the verge of ending it all but I see now that's it only a dodgy match preview. Thanks for talking me down from the brink.
