This is the inverse of when people say relegation won't be bad, we'll storm the league below and come back stronger. Both are wrong.

Burnley must be the model to follow if we ever did get promoted. Sensible
investment - stuck with Dyche even when relegated and they didn't over spend so were in a good position - won promotion again and now look at them. Wilder is our Dyche!

Clough would be ok managing a top flight struggler, his counter attacking football almost got us to Wembley. It's not going to turn a bunch of 'no-hopers' into 'hopers' (for want of a better phrase) but decent players can get results above their respective level.
 
Promotion, if it did occur would (imo) give us the opportunity to yoyo as we built up, any more than that would be a dream.

Support ..... you mean the ones who turn up and buy a season ticket just cause we’re in the premier league and then never to be seen again as soon as we go down.. yeah I suppose we missed them die hards while we’ve been in league one.. financially anyway.

Please don’t call them cunts “supporters” I know five people that rushed for season tickets that year and have never been since, two of that five were Wendy fans who wanted to see the big clubs like Spurs Man Utd and Arsenal on the cheap, I asked them why they’d bought United tickets and that’s what they said, and then they said you’ll lose almost every week, we’ll enjoy that too..

Anyway onto the coming down malarky, I’d be fine to fluke it up through the playoffs ( madness I know ) keep the players we have and come back down with 60 mill in parachute payments whatever it is, but we all know where that money will go, we didn’t spend big last time we were up there and when we came down McCabe took a 10mill loan against the club if I remember right, and let’s not get started on the 25mill that we got from West Ham... nice numbers when you consider our record signing is only 4mill. (Let’s not get into player sales).

McCabe clearly made terrible decisions with Robson and the money I’ve mentioned above but since then we’ve been paying the price right up to present day..

Promotion - it’s a no from me, not unless we have a new board with very deep pockets, sad but true.

With the support I'm mainly referring to the affect it would have on the fanbase generally. Expectations rise and a sense of entitlement is established. That contributes to poor attitudes and a negative atmosphere at matches.

As for those who turn up for the PL then disappear after relegation, fuck 'em. Your story about those Wednesday sad cases is unbelievable. Knowing there are people like that making up the attendances when you reach the PL does taint it.

We wouldn't spend much if we went up. We'd try to do it on a shoestring. And Wilder might work another miracle succeed in keeping us up. But what I think it would enable is for McCabe to be in a position to sell at a price attractive enough to potential new owners.
 
overall being in the prem for one season does far more harm than good
the squads wages go up on 3 year contracts that are unaffordable on returning
most prem wages now are on 35 40m per the cheaper end but after a 10 m turnover and 15 m running cost at present it is a nasty surprise

It does no harm at all if its managed properly. If there is a clause that increases wages when you go up, there's usually a clause that decreases wages if you go down. Only badly run clubs sign players with no relegation clause.

You get one year PL money plus two years parachute payments and most contracts are for three years so all you have to do is to make sure your wage bill in your first year is no greater than the income you'd receive the following season if you go down.

That's what sensible clubs do even if it means they risk not being competitive enough to stay up. Stupid clubs gamble on staying up and paying over the odds to attract players who wouldn't otherwise play for them.

There's a bigger danger when you've been in the PL for a couple of seasons and the supporters are demanding constant progress. Owners get complacent about their PL status and start to think they're 'established' and start overspending. Relegation would probably cause a lot more damage to a club like West Ham than it will Huddersfield.
 
If you go up.....you’re good enough. It’s what you do when you get there that determines your fate.

when was football ever sensible
if the only way to sign better playersat a 3 year deal on say 35k a year you have to offer it or lose them , cant sy to them if we go down its 4500 , no one would sign

Football isn't but Wilder is. Although if we went up we could pay players around that amount, it's when they start asking for £50k + that it starts to be a problem for clubs that only get the TV money and gate money, like we would (plus some sponsorship but nowt like Man U etc get).

That's why you're better signing players from the championship as they'll often accept £30k a week as its more than they are on (at most clubs, maybe not wolves and pigs) and if they do well in the PL they'll get a big money move like Ings or Andre Gray. Plus, if you go down they can play in the championship and help you get back up, unlike some of the nesh foreigners who come over and want big money and players who come through the big academies without ever going on loan in the lower divisions. (Think Sunderland, Hull etc).

I think Wilder sees things like Dyche does.

depends how it's handled. There's the boom and bust approach like Bradford took, or there's the yoyo club approach West Brom took (ok they might come down this season but they've been up there for 8 years now).

I remember Charlton fans getting like that, moaning about Curbishley after he'd kept them up there for about 5 years. Got what they deserved after that.
