I see Nigel let down by his players on a regular basis. I see his frustration on the touchline as he sees players regularly ignore his, and Andy Crosby's, calls to play the ball forward quicker and pick opposition players's runs up.
He is said to be loved and respected by most players that have played for him too.
Perhaps it is now time to get tough with them. Players not following instructions need to know that they cannot get away with it.
Perhaps he also need to be more assertive with the board too. Most supporters who have seen United play for the last 2 seasons will recognise obvious deficiencies. Nigel is too good a manager not to see this too. If he says that he NEEDS a few players, he needs to make the board back him
Nigel may need to get tough and make this improvement before the United fan-base evaporates and he loses his job, even though he deserves less blame than others.
Nigel will have more chance of getting a new job if he "walks" away from a club that will not back him than if he gets the sack
