Elsewhere I have seen it suggested that Keith Hill is the man for United, now he's been sacked by Barnsley. That's Keith Hill with his 25.68% win rate at Barnsley, as opposed to Danny Wilson's 54.55% win rate at Sheffield United. I would say the Keith Hill is no more the man for the job than Sean O'Driscoll, another name put forward, is at the moment. Sacking Wilson now would be just a knee-jerk reaction to losing one game in a row, at best a panic and at worst a calamity.

As career stats go Wilson has the best of the three, so why any need for change? We've been playing some decent football, but like the worst brat on Christmas day looking at his presents and throwing a massive tantrum because Number 77 on the list of 100 wasn't there, some people can never, ever be satisfied with what can be afforded at the moment.

This isn't to suggest that I am totally satisfied with Wilson's tenure, and especially not with McCabe's, before some bright spark reckons that because I prefer Wilson to Hill or O'Driscoll it means I alone am to blame for United's current predicament. I'm just suggesting that the two named alternatives to Wilson are not the Holy Grail of managers that some would suggest they are, and of the three, Wilson is currently by far the best of them.

Me too matt. O'Driscoll will be at the dingles by the end of next weel

I think Wilson is doing a good job at the minute and I do think he'll take us up. However, when it comes to staying in the Championship, I think O'Driscoll has proven that he can do it with a budget team when he took Donny up. With DW's negative tactics, I don't think we'd stand a chance in the Championship and I wouldn't have confidence in him strengthening the team enough to stay up. Also, from this position, I do think O'Driscoll would get us promoted.

More wrong at BDTBL than McWobbleGob and Danny.
The whole ethos is wrong and don't hold yer breath for change....same owd will always rule.
Crisis management from top to bottom an awfull club to work for.

Must agree - there is something radically wrong with the whole structure
No faith in either Chairman or Manager but hey Im a Blade so I'll put up with this shit!

Sacking managers is rarely the right thing to do. But worse still is sacking a manager on a knee jerk or for a short term fix.

The result yesterday was poor and some on here have taken the chance to use it to best the club with again. But we sit in second, albeit in a crap league.

The problem at the moment is that we are all desperate to escape this division, but whilst last season we attempted to do it with pretty football and with flair, we still failed. This season Danny has impressed me more because he's lost the higher earners and so called better players, but has brought through younger players and in some cases he's had to bring in lesser players.

There is also more of a grafting mentality this season. For a while we played a very boring, tight game where in some cases we got lucky, but we got the binary score we needed to pick up 1 or 3 points.

Now we're trying to be more expansive, trying to push forward and get more goals and on a few occasions its worked, but on far fewer occasions it hasn't...

We have to fear injuries and suspensions this season as we don't have a big squad of first teamers, we can't call on a ready made replacement for Harry, Kitson, Blackman, Miller or KMac, but with the likes of Long, Flynn and perhaps Porter we have players in the squad who can come good if they get a few games.

For every Cofie there is an Ironside, we just need to have more faith in our own youngsters.

I remember at the start of last season many on here wanted Danny to give youngsters a chance even if it mean some bad results... I see many have forgotten that.

As for changing manager, what would it achieve really? There are no guarantees and if anything SoD would need much more time to build than a few months

Stick with Danny.

I am not a big believer in sacking managers and recent events in the football world has really brought it home - Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn, Bolton, etc
However, we cannot afford to spend another season in this poor division - Wilson has to get more out of his players than he did yesterday - waiting to bring on substitutes until the last ten minutes when your 1-3 down to a side that has not won for 20 games highlights his lack of nous!
Yes, we have lost a lot of better players from last year but he still has the biggest budget in the league - Come on Mr Wilson prove me and many others wrong - lets see some bottle from both you and the players!

Wilson may have a high win ratio but he had by far the best and highly paid squad last term and he still failed to deliver as I expect him to fail this season due to having all the decent players remaining sold off. I was distraught when we employed Wilson rather than going for O'Driscoll who I'm sure with the team and resources last year would have us playing in the Championship rather than the pigs. To me it is much like their situation last season Megson was Ok but not good enough to win promotion Mandaric to much laughter from us and dismay from pig fans replaced him and it worked. Although Danny has not done a lot wrong I still don't think he is quite good enough to get us promotion or if he does has he the ability to keep us in the championship. Harsh as it sounds if I could get O'Driscoll in Wilson would be gone in a heartbeat, the guy has taken little Donny to the Championship which is as far as they can ever expect to go, what could he do with more resources ??? long term I think O'Driscoll would be the better option. Will KM grasp the nettle like Mandaric ??? ................... not a chance no bollocks a bit like our Danny.

If we got O'driscoll tomorrow there is no way we would go up IMO. The players we have are not his type of player

Not sure about O'Driscoll but fully endorse your comments regarding Wilson
McCabe grasp the nettle? not a snowballs chance in hell!

Last season everyone was ohhing and ahhing bout the style of football we played, this season with little or no resources, we're still there or there abouts, maybe we should have sold everyone last year started from year zero and spent ten years behind the vile
we as blades need to wake up and realise we're an average team in a shit league.Sacking the manager will make it 5 in 3 seasons any of us working know with turn over at the top like that it'll affect the whole.company i will look at Danny's record when his contract is up and not before. We will win, lose, and draw games over a season learn from history so we don't make those mistakes for the future of our club ,4 managers in a season?? Do we want to end up like pompey i've followed my team in div4 and it aint nice, i aint no sycophant just like most on here 100% Blade, sod told us a few seasons ago to sod off, hill please no.UTB.

People can go on discussing if Wilson should be sacked if they find it worthwhile, but I'll be leaving those threads alone. It won't happen. It's so uninteresting.

Let's try to tweak debates a bit and look at what's actually going wrong and what we should be doing to put it right.

Bergen Out!

I know I always say, "as an ex pro", but I feared our game against Hartlepool. Especially as we beat Scunny. It is very hard to be really prepared, psychologically to play against the 'bottom club' when you have just had some good results; Crawley and Scunny. The tendency is to think one only needs to turn up. Usually by the time you realise you have a game on your hands, the result is beyond you and it hard to get yourself going again. Getting teams prepared mentally on such occasions, are the times when the great managers earn their money.
I for one feel it would be hard to replace DW with anything better. However, I do think he might need help scouting players.
Out here I get laughed at when I tell people I support United but I don't care. I'm amazed at how many pros out here have only heard of Mittwoch. ( Can't bring myself to say W*******y) I am proud to support the Blades, I will always support the Blades. I am proud of the supporters on the whole and it is them that I feel for when we lose. I am proud to belong to the family of SUFC. That will always be the case regardless of who is in charge, either of the football side or the business side.
Amen

I give Wilson until the end of the season.
If we are not promoted then he needs to be replaced with a manager who is forward thinking & wants bring through youth.
With our budget we should be walking this piss poor league. There really is no excuse.

Shit performance and terrible surface. No doubt about it.

But we played well against Scunthorpe and the division is shit, despite what the scaremongers say. You have to chuckle when they disappear under their rocks for a a month or so and then reappear when we lose a game.

I had the epiphany that (a) we're a fairly ordinary side; (b) we've got no money for new signings, and; (c) it's likely we'll lose a decent player during most transfer windows, about 12 months ago - I'm still amazed others haven't. That said, we've got a very good chance of automatic promotion this season. If Wilson gives Whitehouse (15 odd goals last year in Reserves/U19s), Diego, Kennedy and Ironside more of a role after Christmas, he'll continue to have the benefit of the doubt from me.

I said earlier that I thought DW maybe needed help scouting. It just shows how little I know. Just found out it was our Danny that discovered Charlie Austin. The only question now is, can he do it again and for us?
