YES YES YES We must have a manager in place whether it be Carver until the end of the season, someone else until the end of the season or a permanent manager on a 3 year deal, then we need to get them in so that they can then be allowed the means (money or wheeling and dealing) to be able to bring players in/ get rid of players during January.
We need to get our season back on track or at least salvage it in the best way we can.
Disagree with you Swiss and most of the above. It is imprtant that we choose the right person. It's seems clear it will be Adams or SOD, so when are we realistically going to get them in? There is discussions (presumably taking place now), the official approach (maybe next week), then wranglings over compo, contracts etc (before the new year maybe).
It is unrealistic that the new boss will be given much money in January. He will be expected to work with what he has got and maybe sign a couple of free transfers. Anyone thinking he'll get cash in the next window is seriosuly deluded. He might try and ship a few out, but I doubt it. To be honest though, one training session with Monty, Quinn, Lozzy, Taylor and Ertl will be enough for the new man to say on yer bike.
It is not a massive deal how quick we get him in. Why can't we expect the new manager to get our current players playing? Warnock would, so why not Adams? Kendall got those misfits playing in 96, so why can't O'Driscoll? Just becasue Speed could not, doesn't mean that the new manager can't.
One thing that people haven't considered is that Birch has something up his sleeve. This may work in favour of all the above posts. Was anyone surprised at how easily United let Speed go? This to be me suugests one of two things (or both): Birch/McCabe/the board didn't rate him and we're happy to let him go and/or they had someone else lined up. So was Tricky Trev talking to SOD and Micky Adams as soon as Wales expressed an interest? Let's wait and see.
