Ched Evans completed his transfer from Manchester City to Sheffield United for a fee in the region of £3m. The 20-year-old striker was highly sought-after but signed for the Blades in a three-year deal.

Evans had two Premier League clubs and three Championship clubs vying for his signature, but the Welsh International tells givemefootball’s Lawrie Madden why he opted for the Steel City.

Q: How did the move to Sheffield United come about?

A: I was looking to get out of Manchester City last January and I had heard that Sheffield United were interested in taking me on loan. I went to see the manager at that time and he said no to me going on loan. But United weren’t put off and came in for me again.

Q: There was a lot of interest in you. Why United?

A: It is a good club. It has everything you need to be a Premier League club. I needed to be playing regularly and Sheffield United made me feel wanted.

It is about confidence and scoring goals and United showed me they wanted me and that was important. There were other opportunities but I am pleased to be here. Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice in order for your career to move on

Q: Any regrets about leaving City at this time?

A: I have no regrets leaving Man City. I was there for six years and didn’t really have a fair chance. The club has got money and are buying big name players so it was going to be hard for a youngster to break in.

Q: What sort of club is City these days?

A: It’s a pure fantasy football team. It’s going to be unreal in a few years time. But I am happy to be playing regular football this season and I have set myself a few targets as well.

Q: Do you still have ambitions to play for Wales?

A: Yes. You need firstly to be playing regularly for your club to get noticed and then you give yourself a chance of being picked for your country. I am hoping that playing all the time and scoring goals will help get selected for Wales.

I think he comes across very well and his answers show intelligence and maturity for such a young player.

A goal on his debut would be nice :)

Hat Trick tomorrow:D

His bird is pretty fit too.

Nice, sensible replies. Seems to view the Blades as a club with potential.

It's obviously crazy to think of ched as my favourite Blades player ATM as he hasn't even played 1 game but he is. Awesome potential by all accounts so i was delighted we signed him, can't wait to see him action :D.

It's just a shame that we know otherwise :D

Come on Linz......we all know there will be a let-down somewhere near April/May time next year !! But it's only August. A win tomoz and it'll be promotion by Easter....a loss and it'll be "give Blackie 10 games and then we're in the car park" !!! ;)

Amen to that, brother :D

I do think that perhaps the "shoes off" brigade might start a little earlier this season, considering we play the Pigs in the middle of September.

We'll beat the pigs this year , last year I knew we'd lose but I'm quite optimistic for some reason now.
