On Ryan Flynn's new contract:- “I’m not sure exactly how long (the contract) is but I’d imagine it’s something like two or possibly three years. I’ve not really got involved with all of that. The main thing, and the most important thing as far as I’m concerned, is that Ryan is going to be staying here.”

It seems surprising to me that Clough hasn't specified exactly how long he wants to sign players such as Flynn for. I could understand him not getting involved in the nitty gritty and the exact financial terms. But surely when he's building a squad for the long-term, he would want to be saying "try and get Flynn for 3 years, Maguire for 4 years, Porter for 1 more year etc...?" I'm not criticising as I love him to bits but it just seems strange to me and at odds with us otherwise seemingly meticulous attention to detail.

If they are still negotiating then it could be 2 or 3 years. I would imagine that's why it could be either.

That and if there are any other potentially interested parties, it doesn't advertise the length to any competitors.

He's heading up the footballing division as such, there is absolutely no way he doesn't know how long the contract is likely to be even if he doesn't tell the press.

You would expect so, which is why his comment surprised me.
He could have just said "it's still under negotiation" rather than "I'n not sure, it doesn't involve me".

perhaps it doesn't involve him, just saying like, but I'm sure he will have said to the ones that it does involve summat along the lines of "I want Flynn and i would like him for the next 2-years"

Strange comments, if they are honest. Having business people giving huge wages on too long deals to ordinary players was a major reason for our slide.

Im sure Clough will have had his input on this eg minimum term and a maximum term with the possiblilty of the club having an option just like they have with his present contract

If you listen to the interview it was just a throw away comment ,when he tired of Giddins asking stupid questions.

His comment in the interview was actually even worse as he said something like "I'm not interested, we're not looking that far ahead"!

Although I agree that he could have just been fobbing Giddins off rather than stating that his strategy is to take no interest in the length of players contracts.
