Int Break: Hard Truth Time

We know Wilder is a slow starter, we know its usually 4 games before we see any real impact on what he brings to a team...

So this break should be perfect for him to start working properly with his new team, the real blessing is half the players know what's coming, so it should be easier..

Its a relegation fight now, that has to be the mantra till we start scoring a goal or two...

If we were losing 3-2 with a dodgy decision or an individual mistake, I wouldn't say relegation fight, but we aren't scoring, and if that carries on, you're down..

That is some superb straw-clutching.

Wilder 1.0
first 4: W0 D1 L3 F2 A7
next 4: W4 D0 L0 F8 A4
9-12: W2 D2 L0 F8 A3

Wilder 2.0
first 4: W1 D1 L2 F2 A5
next 4: W0 D1 L3 F6 A10
9-12: W1 D0 L3 F4 A11

Wilder 3.0
First 4: W1 D0 L3 F2 A4
next 4: ?

Feels less like a slow starter and more like a busted flush.

The owners no doubt got together and decided to give Selles the elbow and bring CW back in from gardening leave. I am not sure how often they get together, as a group, but I don't think they will be sitting on their hands, glancing at the weekly results and thinking this is fine, it will all come good.

They should be (and probably are) speaking to Wilder and saying "what are our options?", "what, if anything, can we do to try and rectify this situation in as short a time as possible"?

If the answer is , "here are three players who are free agents who will immediately improves us and give us a fighting chance", then the board should act on that.

I did see on Twitter (I know, I know......) that talks are already taking place with possible players to bring in, in January, but it might be too late at that point, we need to go on a great run, right now.

It's also time for CW, AK and the rest of the coaching staff to sit down and take a long hard look at how we are set up and who is playing and who is on the bench and make some tough choices.

Last season, we had fans moaning because we were scraping 1-0 wins and the product on display was not very entertaining. I don't think any of us would say no to scrappy, boring, 1-0 wins for the rest of this season. If we have to go 4-4-2, hoofball, whatever, as long as it gets the result, we have to do it.
From the bits I hear, the relationship between Wilder and the owners is a bit frosty, as you’d expect, after recent events.

I guess 'big improvements' is subjective, but there are objective facts that would support that we have seen improvements compared to the Selles disaster, big or otherwise
0 shots on goal was a regular occurrence with Selles in charge.
We've steadily increased possession, shots on target etc with Wilder in charge
At Hull we had 61% possession, 13 shots with 4 on target.
Compared to Selles, in opinion that's a big improvement.

Is it improvement or is it just a lower standard of opposition? Hull had kept 1 clean sheet from 25 at home before we played them and had the worst team in the division.

For me, we still look to have the same problems as we had under Selles and not much has changed. We still struggle to create chances or keep a clean sheet.

E.g. our stats against Milwall show we had 62% possession, 14 shots and 4 on target. Almost exactly the same as Hull.

Not that it particularly matters but I had account years ago linked to a different email address I can’t access any more, I browsed as a guest until recently when I gave up on X/FB cause I was sick of the people crying over wilder.
I'm sick of people crying about wilder. It's not helping.

That is some superb straw-clutching.

Wilder 2.0 took over an impossible situation in the PL.
Give him some time please. 4 games isn't long to turn this situation around. A situation caused by the board, not Wilder.

I'm more than happy to give him time but I don't think it's unfair to want to see improvements, even in the short term. The team looks disjointed and, critically, there seem to be some undroppable players either in the starting XI or on the bench. I'd love to have your belief that it'll change but I don't see where that change is going to come from.

Why bother coming back?
Because for all his faults, he loves the club (and, because of his ego, he probably thought he could get us promoted).

I know things are looking shite at the moment but the season isn't over yet. Last season we were just above the relegation zone when Lampard took over in November. We only signed 1 player. It’s a poor Championship this season. We beat Millwall at their place 4-0 midweek. Then they beat WBA 3-0 on Saturday.

If Wilder is as good as he thinks you will soon start climbing up the table. Only 4 wins out of the playoffs with 37 games to go.

There isn’t much between them and both bloody horrible to watch. As I’ve said before, some people are clutching at straws. Constantly playing 1 up top with a lazy twat and someone who cannot even hold a ball up.
I agree they're both bloody horrible to watch mate, just that one is less horrible to watch than the other!
I'm really hoping that Tom Davies and Danny Ings will be the catalysts that will drag the under-performers up.
If not, it's going to be a frustrating wait until January!!

Agree, but the system is all wrong, outdated and no plan B . Every match apart from Oxford.after 30 minutes the opposition manager makes a tweak or two and we have no answer. It’s a terrible situation that we have to rely on crocks who are forever keeping the physio busy. I’m blaming Wilder for this garbage we are being served up but the owners have no clue, plan, contacts or football knowledge to push forward. They are to blame for this mess.

We had the chances to beat Hull on Saturday and if the players confidence was better I firmly believe we would have regardless of what people think of the overall performance.

I agree. Still can’t believe we didn’t get at least a point.
If we’re going down, I’m convinced Hull are coming with us. They looked the weakest team we’ve played this season, including Oxford.

Wilder has to lift confidence and blend the new players into the squad.

Blaming whoever won't get us anywhere , its gone , the best we can hope the board do is learn from it .

From now on CW has the job to turn it around. We cant have " not my squad" or other arguments. CW knew the squad when he agreed to return , its not as though its a surprise.
He may have been dealt a tough hand and it'll take some work but that's the job

Im pretty confident he will find a way of getting it right, he's a competent manager after all .

I just hope he can be open minded enough to be flexible , take advice on board and make uncomfortable decisions to get there .

The team have shown signs of improvement, nothing like enough but of course he understands that .

Fingers crossed for the rest of the year .
