Improvements needed in match day atmosphere?

I see your point but I suspect all the great atmospheres started out with this kind of coordination.

Old school standing helped because like-minded people stood together. That isn't possible again so there's no real way for it to happen unless it's planned.
Sorry. Might we be at cross purposes. I am also saying you might (initially) need that kind of coordination to get to a great atmosphere.

And, the Holmesdale HF05 Fanatics did just that - they have a system where you tell them your existing season ticket details. And, they work with the club to get you relocated to the "Ultras Block"

Yep. A lot of people say it was much louder in the Wilder years but it wasn't, it was dead most weeks then as well. I can clearly remember it, and clearly remember moaning about it. I'm not sure when the atmosphere started tailing off but it was probably around the time that the G/H blocks got shut.

The atmosphere isn't gone forever but I really think a safe standing section is the best way to gather all of the like-minded fans in one area and start generating some atmosphere.

The club talk about providing an amazing matchday experience, but surely the atmosphere is a huge part of that. If they showed some interest in safe standing it might at least show they care that BL is an absolute morgue. Going to the Lane is mostly a very dull experience and I really hope it changes.
Club providing an amazing matchday experience.... this I have too see ... more Bullshit! Drop alcohol prices in ground and maybe I might have a great matchday experience 🤣

I think it was much louder in the wilder years, there certainly were long quiet spells but especially in the promotion season and first season in the prem the difference is chalk and cheese to some of the games now. We're in the playoffs with 2 games to go but judging by the atmosphere it's like we're mid table with nothing to play for. I think being "underdogs" during that time helped the atmosphere a lot, anything we achieved was overperforming with a group of league 1 players. Now we're an ex prem team, if we're not top 2 every time we lose people are calling for a full rebuild, and I think there's certainly a hangover from the second prem season and the start of this season where we were so poor making fans nervous to get excited.
I sit in the middle of the kop about a third of the way down and in the wilder years it got very noisy, especially in big games or when we were playing great, now whenever songs start they're in the distance at the back corners of the kop and seem to fizzle out before people join in around me, sometimes I feel a right prick singing when no one around me is but it tends to get a couple near me going. I think if people are more willing to join in when the songs are a bit quiet, more will quickly follow and you get a chain reaction, at the moment most songs die off after 1 or 2 verses.

What is? Where I personally stand? Yes. Where my cousin sits, for example, is embarrassingly bad. And I know because there's been the odd occasion I've sat there. Mindnumbingly dull.
Well that’s clear then.

I haven't read every post on this, but I've read a few and ultimately it's up to us and no one else to make the atmosphere better. We're 6th in the league and going for promotion. It may not be as exciting as the Wilder promotion because we were playing on top of our game and promotion wasn't expected But particularly those on the Kop, if you're on the kop - especially from halfway and backwards, you should be singing from start to finish. That's my thoughts, and yes I do sing on the Kop as much as I can really; I've started a few chants in my time but it's more joining in that's the issue. If you hear a chant and it's at the back, just join in, if you're own your own then sod it someone will join in I'm sure of that, if not it's there loss! It's not rocket science and then it spreads over the whole Kop. If we've become a team that only sings when we're winning than we're no more special than anyone else. I think since we've become - relatively - more successful we've got more fans but some of these are more expectant than those that are used to the fact we're generally crap, if I wanted to support a team that won most weeks I'd support Liverpool like so many people chose to do because it's easy.

He once claimed his cousin told him the fans where he sits don’t stand when we score.

It’s odd that the boring old farts would make a much better atmosphere from the Kop alone - in general - back in the day than today, with no South Stand to help. .No one needed a fucking drum or a singing section.

A large group of fans, all stood (sat (winks)) together in the same block of the ground, boys n gals n young n old n black n white, with a large repertoire of songs in support of their team, belting them out throughout the 90 minutes, loud n proud, colourful, flags, banners.

Does anyone think that is cringeworthy or cheesy?

That's the show. That's the objective. That's the end game.

Is that cringeworthy or cheesy?

Because the other peripheral shit. Like drums & choreography & capos. That's where you start in order to get to the objective. That shit is not the objective itself. It's just a quick phase you (might) need to pass through to get a large enough group of "active" fans, who are bang at it. Once they've reached that critical mass of numbers, then, they don't fucking need a drum, choreography, capos.

They can bin 'em then.
Sounds good to me - I’d go back on the kop too if it was a standing ticket

When we are doing well, we have a near full capacity thanks to floating supporters that sing their hearts out after 10 pints and some nose powder. Sadly, the same floating supporters are always the ones that stand up shouting abuse at the players when they misplace a pass etc.

Introduce standing only, in say, the first 10 rows of the Kop, but retaining seating in the middle section. That should make for a much improved lively atmosphere, no end.

I know, fucking drums, trumpets , whistles and bells. God help us.

Correct me if I’m wrong but safe standing is still an allocated position. All singers would still not be able to gather together like on a traditional terrace?

It depends how they do it. On the continent you’re assigned a section, rather than a specific row or seat.

Not sure how clubs that have introduced it over here are doing it.

It’s currently an allocated position: specifically, where the seat is you’re standing alongside. That’s very unlikely to change in England for the foreseeable, though you may in some of the newer grounds see more people allowed per row than seats (which wouldn’t be possible at Bramall Lane with the cramped rows of the Kop).

As mentioned earlier in the thread, being in an allocated seat shouldn’t mean the more vocal can’t group together – to do it properly does though require a bit of coordination for season ticket holders to move.
