Just wondered whether anyone could help please.

My mate is in hospital have just had his appendix out, and we were discussing whether the game at Sunderland might be being shown somewhere on the web. The only place I can find is ifollow which is available only to overseas viewers BUT we wondered whether, hypothetically of course, if he had a VPN, would he be able to watch it live?

Wasn't sure whether this should be here or in the off topic section, but as he wants to watch United, I plumped for this one.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Yes

Sign up to ifollow while connected to a VPN, setup an account in a different country (I used France). Then every time you want to watch just connect using the VPN and pay for the match.
Fantastic Trav. Many thanks. Will give it a go for him.

Failing that there will be other places to watch just takes some searching, just don't post links here

Really? Have you come across a working feed of the iFollow stream on a dodgy site, or are you talking about fancams?

I saw the game against Cardiff was advertised on a few dodgy sites, but none of the links worked.

BTW for the OP there are at least two other iFollow threads that give details of VPNs etc. I've only used it once so far and the quality was crap. I'd be happy to pay for a decent stream but the one I tried to view was unwatchable.

Facebook group "Sheffield United Games Live" livestream all games... well they have done so far, anyway.

Thanks Dkc. I'll bear that in mind.

Only with a phone cam - it's not the iFollow feed, unless I missed something.

I had no issues with ifollow for the Cardiff game. VPN through France using Hola. Good quality and never paused. I will be doing it again for Bolton.

Iam sure you did fella, unfortunately several of us are reporting the same issues. Its not the same for everyone which is strange. I have only used vpn and the website. Not tried the app yet. Iam sure the issues will get sorted though.

Not tried it this season for an ifollow game as i have ifollow, but there are plenty of sites out there which tend to produce the goods if you go through and click off all the pop ups etc.

I think Bet365 even do live streams if you have an account

No dodgy steams have been available so far for games that haven't been televised elsewhere - including Bet365. That's not to say there won't be.

I am not saying there aren't issues. I just thought I would share my experience and which VPN I used. FWIW I was using Chrome and have Sky fiber.

Id be careful if i was you with Hola. Its been widely reported it uses users bandwidth for botnets and potentially other unscrupulous activities. A quick google search suggests they are not worth touching with a barge poll.

Gotta be better than 2nd half on ifollow. That aint even worth the £5.80 they charge.

have you tried toning down the quality, it ranges from 240 - 720hd. i had trouble with the 720hd and 720. changed to 360 and hey presto, still decent quality and no buffering

Yeah i did, 1st half is always fine. 2nd half always stutters every 20 secs or so and drops frames.same issues as others have reported.

I believe because it is peer to peer rather than via a server. I have good security on my PC that would stop most people phishing. Plus I reinstall windows every 4/5 months and dont really do anything personal on there. :)

As I have always maintained. Used iFollow in 3 different countries now and watched 4 games. Absolutely no issue any time.

I do however pay for my VPN, which may help.

It really doesnt matter what security you have on your PC or if you reinstall Windows every 4/5 months - you'll reinstall Hola everytime so this becomes redundant..... Phishing attacks have got nothing to do with this either because there is nothing going on to "trick" you into installing Hola. I'd also question what you are acutally doing on your PC to warrant a reinstall that often - There are plently of porn sites these days where virus/malware/spyware don't exisit anymore....

When you are using Hola you are opening up a direct, unrestricted pathway from your PC to Hola and then they to where??? You are allowing an unfettered connection between yourself and a company which has been widely reported on and criticised for its practices with botnets. Traffic leaving your IP address could potentially be identified as contributing to cyber attacks.

I am of course trying to help keep you and anyone else away from services which masquerade themselves as a good and clean service when in fact they are using you for very very bad things....

For the none IT people on the site you should listen to the advice ^^^^^^^ above.

by paying less than £50 per year you can get a decent VPN..........that's SECURE !!!!!

FFS..........there is absolutely nothing in this IT world that is a free lunch - the IT world is the worst industry ever for saying something is free.........they are USING you :(:(

and just as an addendum - approx 8/9 emails out of every 10 emails sent round the world is either scam/spam/virus/something else that's naughty etc that never ever reaches it's intended destination - it's part of what the good IT world does for everyone.

Just get smart everyone. :)

I use Chrome and the touch vpn plugin. Worked ok ish but will give it another go tomorrow.

I'm giving this another go today, using Chrome instead of Firefox and using my phone's 4G connection instead of the apartment's Internet. Not sure if this will make any difference but fingers crossed...

I'm confused about ifollow - so if you're in the UK you only get audio commentary of matches, not live streaming?

Yes unless you have a VPN or Virtual Private Network, which cons iFollow into thinking you aren't in Blighty
