…it stares right back into you. In other words, we are in danger of the fear overtaking us and the unthinkable two weeks ago quickly turning into the highly likely if we don’t do something pretty soon.
I think this team is in danger of losing it in their heads before we even get onto the grass for our remaining games. Time for some decent man management of each of the squad as well as a collective reminder of their talent and their worth. I never believe that simply bollocking a group of grown adults does any good at all. We appear to be rinsing and repeating what we aren’t very good at - pumping balls up the pitch and hoping for the best. It doesn’t work, we are shit at it and that, combined with our insistence on ‘playing through the thirds’, makes for a series of truly dire performances.
Contrast that with the sublime, slick passing football we played for the first 10 minutes against Boro. We are good at it and the players seem to enjoy playing it. Any chance we could do more of what we are actually good at for longer periods of the game? Currently, Plan A is crap and there is no Plan B. At this level and at this crucial stage of the season it really is about belief and I just wonder whether an undeniably talented group of players share the management’s belief that the current tactics will take us up?
Feels like time for a pause ( get them away as a group for a couple of days) a reset, some honest appraisals of what is going wrong from all concerned (including contributions from players) and a step back from the fear that seems to be growing in players and supporters alike.
Long way to go, we are still in control but keeping on doing the same thing and expecting a different result won’t work. Change the dynamic, readjust the tactics and mindset and we can do this!
