If you’re not from Sheffield do you hate Wednesday or Leeds (or someone else) more?

Brought this to mind after the unfortunate promotion of dirty corrupt cheating Leeds United.

Bear with me on this.

Many of our fans are not from Sheffield nor have they ever lived in the city. For the Sheffielders among us there is no question that a hatred for Wednesday trumps all others and I completely get that but for those of us with no ties to Sheffield other than a love of the Blades are Wednesday the one and only or is it more complicated than that?

Using myself as an example I’ve lived in and around West Yorkshire for the last 30+ years and I’m surrounded by Leeds fans. While I do know a few wednesdayites it is fair to say that I get more grief and have more banter with Leeds fans than Wednesday so my football dislike (hatred if you prefer) is more evenly split. When they play each other I generally hope for a dire 0-0 with six red cards and two or three career ending injuries each. In the end I guess I do fall into the rather seeing bad things happen to Wednesday camp but it’s much closer for me than for born and bred Sheffield Blades supporters.

I’m curious how other non-Sheffielders feel. Is it Wednesday above and beyond anyone or do other teams sneak into your thoughts?

Wednesday, it has always been and always will be Wednesday. Ever since my attending my first Derby match (the 93 Cup Semi :( ) I cannot stand them. Im pretty non plussed about Leeds to be honest, geography for me trumps familiarity every day of the week. That said it doesnt mean I wont take joy if I see leeds struggle to relegation next season.

TBH I want bad things for Wet Spam after the Tevez affair more than I do Leeds, would have loved nothing more than to see them go down this year.

I am not from Sheffield and have never lived there but it's Wednesday, Leeds and West Ham for me. With an emotional attachment to the blades then I have developed an emotional hatred for those clubs who are traditional rivals. Northern Ireland has plenty of Leeds fans who remember the success of yesteryear and have an entitled superior attitude despite no recent success. West Ham are on the list because of the Tevez affair. The attitude of many of their fans towards the blades means they will always be on my list of clubs I want to go bust.

Being a lightweight from Surrey and becoming a blades fan due to TC in the 70s. l have no reason to dislike the pigs, but due to social media and reading more of their delusion in line l have grown to hate them as if l was born in Sheffield and will be doing a jig of delight if and when they get their points deduction which is long overdue.

Brought and raised in Sheffield before moving to the Emerald Isle
I never thought owt of dem pigs 🐷 being from a family mostly of dem pigs 🐷, Boxing Day was fun that year I can tell ya
Had mates who were pigs 🐽 and got along no problem or hassle just banter nowt else
But one incident has tainted my views of them , their club and fans
In the early 80’s on my long journeys home to see our team ferry , 2 train trips then doing the reverse trip on Sunday
We had a home game and I normally arrived in Sheffield around 11 , dem pigs 🐷 had an away game and midland was full of em , 3 saw my Blades badge and attacked me I got a pasting but took one down with me
Since that day its been dem pigs 🐷
Don’t even want em to win the coin toss before the game
Every other team is secondary every team
Fuck dem pigs 🐷

I hated West Brom because their fans are a load of whinging cunts, and I got beaten up by a steward there for clapping our boys off - seems that was provocative!

However, I really like Bilic, and while he is there I can’t dislike them at all.

I hate Wet Sham for our history and for the Tevez mask cunts. It was wearing off, but I hate them even more these days because I have always thought that Moyes is a complete arsehole.

So I guess I tend to think of the managers in terms of my level of hatred for a team. I think Bielsa is great - so I am OK with Leeds - Pigs and Monk are in such a mess that it is disdain rather than hate.

I lived in Sheffield for 6 years in the 70’s but next year will see me 50 years a Blade. I have spent the last 43 years in the Midlands observing Villa/Blues and West Brom/Wolves hatred and it is really not as much to do with football as gang mentality. The nutter fans pursue the hatred obsessively, and the milder majority get drawn in a little because they get really pissed off with the other side’s nutters.

For what it’s worth I think Bielsa and Bilic replacing Howe and Farke will make next year tougher than this - they are both very bright and really tough cookies.

Leeds for me, being Darn Sarth and never lived in Sheffield. So many 'Leeds Leeds Leeds' lads in the pubs out of nowhere this season. Plus they're quite good. The fact that Wednesday have become a laughing stock while we've had success makes it funny and my hate for them has turned into, not pity, but amusement. They clearly hate us more than ever. Our success is having a huge bearing on them as a fanbase and a team. You love to see it. It's killing them...

Spending my formative years over the hill in Glossop a town full of Man Utd fans - I have a deep rooted dislike of them. Especially as most of my friends at school were Citeh fans...

Leeds because I live there and know about a lot of their fans are, think the pigs and multiply it by infinity how bad they are.

I live in Leeds and don't hate them. A few of their fans are getting cocky at the moment which you would expect! I just don't like the coverage Calendar and Look Leeds give them over all the rest of Yorkshires teams

Despite not living in Sheffield for 25 years, I can hand on heart say I still hate the pigs just as much now as I did back in the day! No one else gets remotely close!

Since moving here from Mars, my first hate where the Vesuvians, very deluded ugly twats, my first encounter with the blades was getting kidney punched by a baby in a pram. Despite that first setback i fell in love with the blades, my first game was Blades v Liverpool at home in the 70's, I once had to go to a rusty stadium for someones birthday party...(shudders....), hate manure, hull, weeds, liverpool obviously the deluded, dont care much about palace either.....

Hello, my name is Mr Snrub and I come from uhh...some place far away...Anyway, I say they're both worthy of my hate.

Pigs is the main target of my disdain, got em on both sides of the family .......

Used to be some fraught Wedding Do's late on ......... :D

Seems to be just nodding at em at Funerals now .......... 🤔

Leeds, is just plain dislike, club, players, fans ... twats ...

Personally after having lived in Huddersfield most of my life, I do have a dislike of them for no other reason than it was used to try and bully me at school as I was the only United fan there. More recently I had the displeasure of working with Leeds fans and they more deluded than the Wednesday fans and quite unpleasant with it.

Highlight of last year was watching the Leeds win with 6 Leeds fans I played football with in a pub in Huddersfield, very satisfying...

Never lived in Sheffield, born and raised in north Wales. My dad did it right, straight into a blades onsie the day I was born. Sings multiple blades song every day. Raised to say pigday not wednesday, and that pigs make an owl sound and owl oink. He always threatened to kick us out if we wore blue.

Safe to say I hate wednesday and leeds. Sadly the biggest teams here are Liverpool, Man U, Everton and somehow Leeds.

Sounds like a top fella, your old man. I agree, he does do it right. Fuck the Owls.

Only lived in Sheffield for half a year as a student. Became a fan of United before I lived in Sheffield and already disliked the pigs because of that. After actually coming to Sheffield those feelings actually got confirmed and grew even more. I met a few decent Pigs, but most of them were annoying as hell.

I have never had a problem with Leeds, since they are portrayed as a "big old" sleeping giant here, so all the stories I heard about them are quite positive. While I lived in England I visited the city of Leeds, but didn't visit an actual game. Did not like the city, but the few Leeds fan I met were quite alright.

So yeah, I hate the pigs and actually have no problem with Leeds. That might change when we play them next year tho.

Having been out of Sheffield and down South for 22 years, at the moment the Rusties just make me giggle. Never liked Leeds since the 70s, probably never will. And having lived amongst them for years and having friends who are Hammers, no issue with them at all and all the ones I know have nothing but admiration for us as a club.

Born in Sheffield and came back for university 91-94 but lived in Northallerton for the majority of childhood and North London since 1996.

All my proper old mates are mackems, so hate Newcastle.

My in laws who never go to games but always give it large are Arsenal. So hate Arsenal loads.

So firstly i am from Sheffield originally and growing up it was always the Wendies id disliked,

i now live in Wakefield - Work reasons - but still have a season ticket family live in Intake, since ive lived in Wakefield and worked in Bradford my dislike of Leeds has grown last season was priceless , i fully appreciate the history the big club mentality coupled with the media love in but the sense of we should be a Premier League team just because we are Dirty Effing Leeds United gets my goat ! beating them next season will be worth every bit of dislike i have for them and their deluded fans !

Can't profess to hate a club, unless of course there's inherent racist or other vibes emanating from them. For those of a certain age, I recall Jack Charlton, then manager of Wednesday, confronting a National Front member who was attempting to sell their rancid and odious publication. Jack gave the fucker little chance to do or say anything and made sure they never returned, so the story goes, and in my book that's a story, if true, that should not be ignored. Of course I comment once in a while about the deluded commentary that still persists amongst many of their supporters, but hey, what else have they got to talk about? We're in a position they could only dream of being, so responding to their bollocks is a waste of time really (must follow my own advice).

As for Leeds, let's wait and see how they respond to the better quality of football they'll encounter. Unfortunately arrogance is something that goes hand in hand with supporters, so historically little has changed..........must admit, the realisation that the pigs have been absent from the Prem for 20 years raises a smile, and I thought we had troubles. All the while the Thai loon owns that club they'll be plagued by problems, if that's not a good fit I don't know what is!
