If we lose on Saturday...

I was talking to a Huddersfield fan last night and he mentioned how bad they've been and by the sounds of it, if we don't come away with the points then it might be time to start worrying a bit and time to up the ante in the transfer market.

Agree Pomp’s and I said it last season
I love this club , and have done since my Da first brought me to a game , but some of those charlatans who gave us those performances were poxed we weren’t in the ground to see some of that shite served up last season ,
we can be loyal but we won’t accept being taken for fools
We can accept being beaten , we ain’t Man City we know we can’t buy 100 million pound players.
But we expect our players to show as much fucking pride in our shirt as we do
If we get beat on Saturday we get beat
It’s how we get beat that’s important
UTB
Laughing at Dum pigs 🐷
we wont get beat dublin first win of season saturday 😁

I expect Huddersfield, Preston and Derby to give the rest of us a free pass so far as relegation issues are concerned this season.

As crap as we are, we'd have to be pretty bad to finish below them and a few others. On ability alone, we should coast some of these games but its all about what's between the ears for our lot and its nothing but clouds, kittens and cotton wool at the moment.

My work mate supports Huddersfield and they have been bad for last few years. If we don't beat them and comfortably then the players need to know how the fans feel and only way to do that is via song. The players need to show some fight, the fans are "performing" so why not the players on the pitch. If it's another piss poor performance then they need to get both barrels.

Good. I hope it is. They've been getting away with this shit now for over 18 months and all we've done collectively and benignly is resign ourselves to the fate that came our way.

The players need to understand the expectation. They did two years ago and delivered. What changed? We changed a keeper and lost a centre back and the team went to shit.

Much the same as when our centre forward was banged up for rape, we just collapsed.

It's just not good enough.

I agree, they need to know from us what we think as people who pay our hard earned on tickets and sky subscriptions to pay them to entertain us and perform to the best of their abilities, which we know they are capable of better, or at least they were. I wouldn't expect Geoff Hurst to score a hat trick for England any time soon but even with a bit of a regression, this group of players can do more than what they are doing.

Chris Wilder WAS the saviour at the time, he dug us out the shit and took us on a fantastic journey but when it got difficult for the first time, when the energy ran out, the ideas, upgrades to the squad, contingency plans, key decision making to kick us on again - we were found wanting.

The old Sheffield United self-sabotage mentality kicked in and people who are chanting Wilder's name need to realise that its not like he left us for a better job, he walked out the door because he didn't get his own way. This isn't Alfreton Town or the local Sunday League scooping dog shit out of the goalmouth, it's Premier League football and it's big business and couldn't bring himself to front up and admit that he and his staff had come up short, slinking out the door and buggering off instead.

He's good at sorting out other people's messes when he walks into a club but can't see the wood for the trees when it's a mess of his own creation which is pretty plain to see based on what we saw at West Brom, who aren't exactly a team of world beaters in the grand scheme of things, nobody in this division is.

Most of this squad simply isn't mentally up for the challenge, they need something or somewhere fresh and so do we. As typical footballers, like Simon Jordan said a while ago, they look for an excuse or somewhere else to point the finger instead of looking in the mirror.

I can see it being one of those Days tomorrow when the clock ticks around to twenty to three and you are serisousl debating whether to stay in the pub or not.. had a few of those in the Adams and Adkins days when just watched the scores come in on Soccer Saturday.
After a year of watching games in lifeless empty grounds on TV this puzzles me massively. I know we'll all take it for granted again before long because thats human nature but win draw or lose, actually being able to go, seeing grounds full of fans, right now, is wank material quite frankly. Some goals would be nice though!

Fucking better not be as there will be some rucks in the home ends.....that twat put us in this mess and fucked off. He can stick the previous 4 years and "one of our own" shite up his arse.
There was one lone voice near me, at West Brom, trying to get "Chrissy Wilder, he's one of our own" going.

3 games in & people are already at breaking point ffs. Even Wilder couldn't get this lot winning again (look at last season if you ever needed proof). People seriously need to calm down a little & give Slav the time to get rid of the deadwood & bring in his own players (yes it's going to take time) but don't blame him for the mess Wilder left us in.
The problem we have is the players some regard as deadwood have 2 years left on their contracts

God help the first Huddersfield kid I see in a wheelchair before the game. They are getting a kidney punch, just for insurance!

This point is a good one and the problem is again down to Wilder . He was dolling out these contracts to "older" players unnecessarily. Nobody was going to buy them ,they were going nowhere . Once these players have a long contract they dont have the incentive to try 100%.
In addition to the current bunch, my best example is Leon Clarke. Although he was in his thirties,Wilder gave him a 3 year contract when he was hot.
What happened ,the goals dried up and we were stuck with a non performing player.
Wilder had so many shortcoming as a Manager its unbelievable.
The saying "its better to be lucky then good"certainly applied to Wilder

The problem we have is the players some regard as deadwood have 2 years left on their contracts
Which in turn can be put down to Wilder not Slav and surely a bit of wheeling & dealing regarding those on 2 year deals would be best for both parties

Maybe but who but the absolutely greatest players keep their form for 3/4 years on the trot?
These are not great players , they did very well to do what they did.
Its up to the club and manager to plan for changes in form/fitness , clearly this is the problem at United.
Wilder was doing no wrong so the club gave him his head and we all know what happened next.

Yer but at least Mr Wilder gave us some history to look back on, you can't just sweep what he achieved under the carpet because it finished badly. Our whole history is littered with failure, You can't alter the fact he took us no hopers from 3rd Div mediocracy to challenging for the stars . Yes it all fell to pieces in the end ,but it was bloody great while it lasted .
No matter how he left us I would love to do it all again, and don't forget at this level he was on a learning curve too....

Expecting Wilder songs from the stands tbh.
Why Keef let's be reight it's Wilder's fault we are where we are now, fans should get behind Slav and his boys now their confidence must be on the floor. I'm worried for tomorrow but, if fans get behind them and sing out their hearts (like always do) we could bounce back.

Surely it will depend on the manner of any defeat?

If the team suddenly click, creates loads of chances and (dare I hope to dream) score a goal, then I think it would be harsh to lay into them, 4 games into a new season.

I take the point that a lot of frustration has been building up, but I think we owe it to Slav to give him some time. So provided the players turn up, we need to keep our powder dry.

Fat chance of that of course, and I fully expect to see grown men stumbling down the Kop steps to call Verrips a "useless ****" at FT.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say we will win on Saturday by two clear goals.....then the forum mood will go from we're all doomed to champions league in three seasons.

I'm beginning to think half the posters on this forum are my wife. She either says I'm the best man ever to have walked the earth, or I'm a complete cunt, and nothing inbetween😂

..how toxic is the atmosphere gonna be?
When things are going generally ok, but we lose, its quite a bad atmosphere coming out of the ground then, i dread to think what it will be like if we lose tomorrow.

Kind of glad Im not able to go to games at the moment.

The missus has fucked off camping with her mate and kids! That how toxic it could get!

Well I just hope a lot of season tickets have been sold, because unless things start to improve dramatically there's going to be a hell of a lot of pay on the day spare seats going.....
