If we go up

Do you think this present team could compete in the championship.

If surviving is competing yes . If and when we are in the championship . The squad will be completely differant to what it is now.

Name of the game is not to get relegated , but the championship ain't that good . It's a myth .

Survival-level, lower mid-table at best.

Any assertion that this present team, unaltered could mix it with the best is pure delusion.

But if we do go up then we have a manager who can and will assemble the appropriate squad. Just don't go expecting us to be among the big-boys immediately.

I think it could stay up and bloody a few noses. But to compete we'd need a handful of players of real quality.

A quality centre half. A midfielder with real energy. A winger who can carry the ball. And a striker better than any we have now.

if that defence was tuned up I think we could do more than survive ,but chances would have to be put away ,as their will be fewer.

Character will play a big part if and when we go up, we can't go into the championship without belief and respect get the players we need or it will be like the old saying, what goes up must come down. I believe in Cw that he will give the players the right mentality should we go up, but let's get there first. UTB

This team would finish 3 quarters down the league in the Championship

But we won't have this team next season.
No doubt we'll strengthen and buy better players.

I expect us to have a similar season to Barnsley.

Generally around mid table most of the season keeping alive the hope of sneaking in the the playoffs.

Defensive additions needed. Strikers needed. Midfield pretty much sorted for me....O'Shea looked very neat and tidy from Bladesplayer and I reckon he's being looked at as a Championship player.

Championship is a very unpredictable league.

There's a frightening amount of money being spent these days but it doesn't guarantee success.

Look at Villa, Derby, Forest etc. Ross McCormack has gone for silly sums although in fairness has been a decent striker at that level. On loan at a team who are genuine relegating candidates presently.

Then look at Barnsley and Huddersfield by comparison. Good management can outweigh silly spending as we know all too well.

Stopping up would be a start imho but I feel we have the right people in charge and hopefully the talk of the Prince's money being mainly saved for the Championship will come true.

Agree on O'Shea, I thought he looked good when he came on.

A good manager is worth more than a good transfer budget.

Look at Ipswich, they're taking players who can't get in Cardiff's squad, but they're comfortable. That's down to McCarthy, they would've been in a lot of trouble the last 2/3 seasons if it wasn't for him.

Barnsley and Huddersfield have already been mentioned, but Preston should be too. Low budget but solid management, and they're comfortably mid table.

The quality of the players turning out in the Championship remain the same

Only the value of them has gone up

Fkin ridiculous really

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The common assertion that the Championship has become some kind of super league in the last 5 seasons is lost on me I am afraid. With the exception of Brighton, Udders and perhaps Derby and Norwich on their day I genuinely haven't seen anyone this season that would wipe the floor with our current team.

It's funny listening to RS how we keep getting warned about how hard the Championship is, warned by Pigs and Millers that is, two teams who have each had their struggles in adapting. Rotherham have been cannon fodder from the moment they went up whilst Wednesday had years of mire - a relegation scrap under Jones, boring cloggers under Gray and now only after spending a fortune do they look competent.

Absolutely no reason we should or will follow the same road as them. The Dingles have shown that teams on very modest budgets can step up with the right manager and team spirit.

All a matter of opinion of course but I think we would be fine up there, steady if unspectacular anyway.

In the meantime, we are playing Bristol fecking Rovers on Tuesday in the 3rd division....

Paying an out of contract player £50k a week equals 2.6million.... better than spending £10million on a transfer fee and then wages on top I'd say although money doesn't always talk sometimes you just need a chris wilder type of manager to get the best out of players

Tufty has already shown everyone that he can go up a division and not only survive but get to the top. Granted it may be a taller order next time but I'm sure he will do us proud.

This is what success is actually built upon. In that I mean that Chris Wilder being the major factor in whether we can comfortably compete in the Championship. There are many clubs in the Championship who are simply spending beyond their means with a belief that the more you spend the more success will be achieved. No, the model here is the motivational manager capable of building a squad of individuals into a team and competing on an even level.

This is what I admire about Chris Wilder. He knows what players think and he knows what players are capable of and collectively as a team he's astute enough to know where improvements need to be made. Not many managers have this ability but in Chris Wilder we have a manger who whatever division we are in is adequately capable of getting in the right players for the job to survive and compete.

Leicester were a perfect example of what unity on and off in a club can achieve last season and we're doing it in our own way this season but certainly next season no reason why we shouldn't be looking at a play off challenge in the championship should we go up, although we should be happy just to survive the drop really. Anyway like has been said let's deal with a game by game basis first and that starts again in Bristol on Tuesday

I genuinely haven't seen anyone this season that would wipe the floor with our current team.

To add a little to that, I think the squad that got us relegated could conceivably have survived with better management. So a quick comparison seems in order...

Simo or Moore?
Lowton/Calve or Freeman?
Mattock/Taylor/Riise or Lafferty?
Nosworthy or JOC/Basham?
Ertl/Bartley or EEL/Wright?
Monty or Fleck?
Williamson/Quinn/Yeates or Duffy?
Britton or Coutts?
Evans/Bogdanavic or Sharp?
Cresswell or Done/Lavery/Clarke/Hanson?

I'd suggest a couple of the 2010 mob are a class above, and many of today's lot are unproven at the level above. But on paper and given a cursory scan, today's team need not fear too much.

Wilder, the players and the fans are doing their bit this season. If we go up we need the Board to step up to the plate and do their bit.

I think the current team can go up the levels but it rests on us the fans. When we get Bramall Lane rocking again and bring back that intimidating atmosphere that saw many higher placed opposition crumble in those recent cup runs, then the sky will be the limit.

Mid table next season, then a real promotion push the following season

Then again who knows the Prince might finally think its time to get involved in a major way and go for it next season, we can only hope but one thing that is set in stone is we will go up this season as Champions.

I think there are quite a few who could handle the step up. Look at Leon Britton. Was a game away from being relegated out of the football league to being in the Prem and the top player in Europe for most completed passes (can't remember which season). He never got taken by a top club (other than us) and yet played regularly. I feel we have players better than we think.

This is the key to taking the club forward in my opinion. The fans have proved their worth in attendance figures which is admired throughout the football league while Chris Wilder has proved during his previous managerial roles that he knows his onions. I'm sure our board realise that we are at that junction where serious board input is not only needed but a necessity.

I believe that this is where the Prince will show his true value and ambition and not forgetting the possible chances of Chinese investment rumoured to be waiting in the wings.

There could be very exciting times ahead.

It’s incredibly difficult to predict. Barnsley scraped 6th last season and have done well in the championship without loads of additions. Wigan walked the league and look like coming back down despite investing in the likes of Burn and Byrne.

Under Wilson, when we looked far too good for this league, we got absolutely dicked by the likes of Birmingham and Reading the cups whereas under Clough, despite never finishing higher than 5th, we bloodied the noses of plenty of championship and PL teams.

If we go up, I’d like to see us try to play like we are with a not dissimilar side (possibly 2-3 additions to the first team) and try to take the league by storm, if it doesn’t work, we could have a re-think and try to become more solid.

My only real concern is that Jake Wright, Mark Duffy and Billy Sharp will all be another year older and I wonder whether they’ll be able to step up to the pace of the Championship at their age.

Not so sure that other than the top 5 there is anything to fear. Could depends who comes down. Maybe I am looking through red and white specs but I feel the impetus we could have going up as champions could give us a real good start should we make it
