.. and we make the play offs, then win at Wembly..

What happens to Blackwell then?

I think he should be paid off and a new man appointed. Thats the second biggest mistake McCabe made with Warnock, should have got rid of Neil once we we made the Prem. Biggest was Robo.

You're right Grumpy. It is totally unthinkable that we will be in a play off final at the end of this season.
We won't even be in the play offs.
Good news is we will be spared all that expence and embarrasment.

Why on earth would we go into administration?

Because Copthporne might realise that Sharrow and recession does not equal a successful hotel and because Blades Realty is totally stuffed. We'd sue Copthorne for a coupkle of million no doubt but not enough to pay the mortgage.

McCabe's companies and McCabe himself did lend to the club in year ended June 2009 but the majority of this £50m figure that is mentioned is bank debt in respect of the hotel and Realty.

Water will flow uphill, and the Earth will stop spinning on its axis.

Blackwell will be of secondary concern, behind dealing with the coming apocalypse.

Is there anyone out there who thinks we can go up?

There''s certainly a reasonable chance that we could make the playoffs. It's an odd league where "anybody can beat anybody". Then, given an injury-free squad and a few players performing to their potential, the team could surprise everybody - even ourselves.

(At least I don't think we'll go down this year!)

Never thought in 50-odd years I'd be saying this, Grumpy, but why on earth would anyone want us to get up? Look at the playing infra-structure we have. How many of 'our' players, as opposed to loan players, would get into any of the teams in the bottom third of the Prem? Those we have are, in the main, the ones who failed to keep us up last time. What happens at the end of the season should we do the unthinkable and get promoted? Do we try and buy the loaners, or do we start with a largely untried team of new players? And if we go down either of those routes, where is the money coming from. Yes, there will be a lot of money available due to promotion but it aint there immediately. We've probably got the makings of an OK Championship side, but with the current policy of not buying players, any thoughts of bettering ourselves can be put on the back-burner. It breaks your heart listening to the Kop shouting 'Ole' when we manage to put 3 or 4 passes together when we know we are capable of doing this on a regular basis but, for some reason, we don't/cant. Rant over roll on Saturday I'll be there, as usual!!!

I think we can stay up but I'm struggling to see where the 9 or 10 points are coming from.
Away matches are virtually a write-off now and we have plenty of tough ones.
Hopefully we can scratch the points at home.

Why on earth are you even considering this Grumpy? It really is the unthinkable and even the happiest clapper, red and white spectacle wearing, Blackwell lover doesn't expect us to do so!?

So Palace and Cardiff in admin. Pompey go bust, It is possible a team finishing potentially 9th gets in to prem.
Now what do you all class as midtable?

I could then say if i magically come into 200m would i buy united, pay off the debt, sack blackwell and push for the prem? Yes i would but the chances of it happening are about the same as your post.

>magically come into 200m
euromillions friday my friend :-)
when if first saw this post i thought it was going to say. .what if we lose ten games and get relegated. just shows my state of mind atm.. anyway stop panicking.. there's no way this shower will get promoted (he says secretly wishing he will be proved wrong).. we'll come seventh and just miss out.. again.

The way this season is panning out boo, its quite likely that a team in that position could end up in the playoffs. No doubt United would still fall short. We dont do well when something is handed on a plate to us. We dont like it too easy.......

As far as mid-table goes, I would class anything from 9th to 15th as mid-table. Blades need some big results now to stay in it. Two wins against Bristol City and Forest would get us right back in the mix but im not holding my breath on either game.

I wouldnt. I love United but I wouldnt throw my millions at it if I had them. Its a thankless task. If youre a millionaire fans expect you to throw money at it and berate you if you dont! Then if you do and the club gets into financial difficulty - suddenly its all your fault. This is not a defence of McCabe by the way because I have my complaints about other things.

Its the last thing I would throw money at. Particularly if its a lottery win and its a dead £200M say - because youre not accumulating further wealth, youre just losing it on a product that isnt going to give you a return. No one makes money out of football.

well you have to spend it on something.. monte carlo apartment or football team.. no brainer in my book.. i'd love to buy the club, then i could get to the root of some of the bizarre stuff that goes on down there

Those Glazier Geezers and their Banker Friends seem to be coining it in

True, but thats just a form of lunacy. No one else in their right mind would use enourmous bank loans to buy the club and secure it against the club's assets.

Youre spot on but there is a difference between making money and 'acquiring' *coughs* money. Same difference if youre a Glazier I suppose.

Is there anyone out there who thinks we can go up?

Not me.

We are 17 points out of automatic and 16 games to go. I don't think we can make up that deficit in that amount of games.

If we make the play-offs then, unless a number of clubs hit the wall, we are going to have to play other teams in the top 6. Our record this season in such games is:

WBA 1 point from 6
Newcastle 0 points from 3
Forest 1 point from 3
Cardiff 0 points from 3
Swansea 0 points from 3
Leicester 1 point from 6

So thats 3 points from a possible 24 against the top 6. Not a record that suggests we are going to breeze through the play-offs.

Is there anyone out there who thinks we can go up?

Can we? - Yes

Will we? - No

We have lost any sort of momentum of late and have lost our three best defenders though injury / transfers. To top this the teams above us are in relatively decent form and the ones behind us are getting their act together. Its simply not our season - luck is not on our side and we dont have that 'feel-good factor' around the club which is SO important in a promotion challenge. Rarely does a team go up without that vibe around it.

Those who think we have anything more than a slim, outside chance are kidding themselves out of blind faith.
