Don't think I'd bother supporting another team. I'd still watch major tournaments and keep an eye on results but that's it.

If we went "tits up" there is only one answer fuck off football, it's bad enough I can't go but for them not to be there would be unthinkable. It's the same at S6 if they went bust who'd we rib, it's banter gone on for years as for supporting one of "bigger clubs" fuck that, as I say Chelsea, City & Spurs not big just rich.

People have to understand being a Blade is a life long commitment it's my religion has been since I was 4 or 5 used to beg my late brother to take me, but I still cheered when we won and sad when lost.

When I 1st started work in 75 if we lost Saturday I wouldn't speak to no one till Thursday, if we won I was popping about and never shut me gob. I get mad with them that's okay it's passion, but I love United till the day I die, and then in Blade Heaven I'll sit and chat with such as Shred I've left instructions when I pop off I want cremating in United shirt & shorts.

None of the options apply to me so I‘m not able to vote.

If United went I’d not regularly support any other team.

However I do love football so if any local team (including Wednesday) was playing a team I wanted to see then I could be persuaded to go to the odd “big” match, as long as it’s not extortionate pricing.

To be honest I know quite a few people I’ve worked with in this group.
They are originally from outside the city...one was a Watford fan and the other a Lincoln fan
but they both have kind of adopted Sheff Utd but only attend for the big games.....mainly to see the opposition or when it’s a full house.
They both used to see the odd Sheff Wed game too in the early 90’s.

Surely the third option is null and void. Who are the bigger local clubs?

I couldn't just stop loving the game, but I couldn't support anyone other than Sheffield United or a guise of that.

FC United of Sheffield, on your marks...

Topical.
Found this newspaper article a few weeks back and almost posted it.
The proposed colours might need changing. Green and white stripes anyone?

Hi Stegasaurus here

Ive long being an advocate of a merger.

More finances. A bigger pool of players. A bigger stadium. Plus more fans

A merger would make sense

Never want to have to make the decision. Probably lower leagues football but not certain I could be bothered if not United. Might become that mythical creature the neutral who just went to random games wherever took my fancy

Without football I would just be a adulterous alcoholic. So my answer is foreign leagues.

no other team for me, I'm Blade from the age of 4. I have no affinity or emotional connection to any other team (apart from Malaga, from living there for 5 years). I would have no interest in watching/ supporting anyone else whatsoever.

Hmm that’s an interesting one and I might change my allegiance from fuck football to following a German team or something like that.

There’s no way I could feel a proper affiliation with another English team in the same way I did with the Blades. Add to that I think English football is fucked from top to bottom then I just don’t think it would grab me in the same way.

I’ve always had half an interest in German football and I really quite like the 50+1 model. Plus if there was a few of us that supported the same team, a trip to Germany 2 or 3 times a year to see a game would be quality and probably less expensive than buying a season ticket and travelling to away games in England.

I have always kept tabs on Real Betis and Werder Bremen (and to a tiny degree a couple other german sides) due to friendships etc. If english football reaches the very likely event of a complete implosion I feel it would be a rather easy transition to make for me. ⚔️

I pretty much dual support Worksop as it is tbh, so I’d be all over the Phoenix club.

Wonder what it would be named 🤔

Strange that the article is dated Sunday 31 August 2021. A date that has not yet been reached and when it does get here, it won't fall on a Sunday.

I did want to clarify this, that when I wrote larger local team, I mean larger than none league. It was a poor choice of words.

Tough choice. I'd probably follow a phoenix club for a while but you pretty much need to do an AFC Wimbledon and march straight up into league football or I can see that losing interest quickly. I can also see myself getting sucked into a team like Chesterfield. Close by and of all the local teams they're the only ones I wouldn't feel like I was selling my soul for going to watch.

Lincoln? Red and white stripes too.

Phoenix Club all the way for me.
I already support two teams without a conflict of interest - Sheffield United & England - so my travels to support England would continue anyway.
I do have an existing affinity with a local, Sheffield based non league team. So would never be able to support anything remotely connected to that Needy & Pleady Club in Dronfield.

The way South Barnsley is going Sheffield is going to end up a one club city anyway. It'd take a while for the stain to come out but with no competition United would be well placed to hoover all the support across the city within 10 years.

Voted lower league because I’d probably go and watch Stocksbridge (nearest non league club to me) more often.

Wouldn’t be averse to the phoenix club thing depending who/where etc.

Big no to the other options.
I'd support Harrogate Town and voted for the lower league local club option as they're only a 30 minute bus ride from where I live in Leeds. I had a season ticket for their first ever season in the National League and I would have had one this last season in League Two as well but for Covid

(Glory-hunter, I know ;) )

Sheffield FC would be a strong option if I lived in Sheffield and that goes for the phoenix club option also.

I would want to support Sheffield F.C. There is a looming problem with this however. Should our Porcine neighbors think they are "Sheffield" rather than South Barnsley, if they are liquidated (a more realistic prospect than our own) then many of them will turn to Sheffield F.C.. Would I then want to stand shoulder to shoulder with them? It makes me shudder. So hopefully this never crops up or choose Hallam F.C. if the porcine situation has already transpired.

Not a nice topic to think about, but if we were to go bust I'm sure some type of 2nd 'FC Sheffield United' would be born. Like FC United, AFC Bury, AFC Wimbledon etc

It's more of a curiosity question. It happens sadly although not too often thankfully.

There's a big split between 'done with football' and a phoenix club with little in-between, so appreciate those who have answered.

I voted for a phoenix club, as long as the spirit of sufc haunts the fuck out of it. I'd still need something to support and I don't think I could ever get behind an existing team anywhere in the pyramid.

Probably just go ground hopping, doing the 92 or however many were left.
Probably have a bet on the home team to give us something to cheer.

Yes, agreed. Wednesday are staring at this in the face at the moment. I could see their owner like Burys pulling all funding & not selling for less than he wants.

Some owners see football clubs as businesses that if all fails they can close down.
