I'd rather not go up this season

I fear we'll do a Derby from a few years back and go straight down with a record low points total. We're not prepared at the moment.

We have to remember that only two seasons ago the highest Wilder had managed was the fourth tier. To be so high in the Championship in your first season (and after injuries and other fuckery that kept key players out) is therefore nothing short of miraculous.

Bassett had top flight experience prior to BDTBL and he knew what was expected at this level. It took Warnock nearly 20 years to reach the Prem from Scarborough's promotion to the old Division Four. Wilder's still getting to grips, and I can see us making a real effort next season if he gets the backing he desires and deserves.

Don't think you need to worry. I think those sides currently occupying the top six positions will probably still be the top six come the end of the season.

We will probably need at least 21 more points from 11 games to get a play off place. Maybe more. Much as I'd like us to, I just can't see us doing that.

But, stranger things have happened and if we were to win our next three games it suddenly becomes 12 points from 8 games which does look doable.

But you - and I mention you only because you've started the thread - considered us genuine promotion contenders in October, when so many were getting carried away when we had a squad that after a poor run, wasn't deemed "good enough" in early January,

So much of the frustration, angst and in a handful of cases, stupidity on here comes from peoples own over expectations and giddiness. After last night, against a very good footballing side it's easy to see the shortcomings of the squad. A squad Wilder has built primarily to keep us in this division. Which he's accomplished. Everything else has been a bonus. But the result against Hull for instance is cause for bigger concern than the lesson we got last night, because they are near the bottom, not looking to be promoted.

Not a criticism of Chris Wilder either.

21 from 11 games is definitely doable win the home games and it’s 18?

I agree. It is doable and would not require a miracle to do it.

As you say, if we win our home games that gives us 18 points. But, I can't see us beating all three of Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Preston. I know we are capable of beating each of those sides, but I think they are also capable of beating us and I think we will lose points against at least one of them.

Also we've been more erratic against weaker sides since Burton and I think we will probably drop points where we don't expect to do so. The side is not as fluent as it was in the first third of the season and whilst we are nowhere near Wednesday territory, I think we are pretty mid table at the moment. That isn't a criticism, as I think mid table is the upper end of what we could realistically expect after the despair of most of the previous 6 seasons

Remember listening to a similar comment by one of our porcine neighbours last year on Football heaven. His fears were exactly the same that they wouldn't be good enough to sustain premiership football and come straight back down.
So where would you sooner be in a years time??

1. Having played all the big boys with better TV payments - i would stick my neck out and say 99% full houses every home game, a few scalps to make that after match pint taste oh so much sweeter and go down with the parachute payment to look forward to.

2 Same as above but finishing 17th on goal difference - No parachute payment , cos fook me this pub team from S2 has defied all the odds and stayed up. With Lineker, Shearer and all the others on MOTD heaping all the praise on Wilders wonders for staying up.

3. We stay in the Championship for another year and just like our Piggy friend said , we push on from a successful season with all our quality players and take automatic top two spot.

Well just how good have Wednesday been this season, Let the Table speak for itself.

Myself day out at Wembley and go up and face scenario 1 or 2.
