All four were already in our books before Bassett arrived
My point wasn’t that Bassett signed them, it was that if youngsters were good enough they would get games. He didn’t favour his signings over youngsters. The fact that only these came through in his 8 years is more a pointer that there wasn’t any others good enough at that time. The subsequent years of no-one ‘making it’ from that time bears this out.

We released Kevin Davies to Chesterfield

We seemed to have a decent crop of young uns come through in the mid-late 80s, with Mendonca, Marsden and Heald having decent careers away from the Lane, and Whitehouse, Ward and Brian Smith doing well at United. The latter having his career tragically cut short with a broken leg in a game in the run in to the 88/89 promotion season.

I'd say that was it until the late 90s when Quinn, Woodhouse and Morris came through, although I suspect DB could have well been the manager who brought all three of them to the club.
