I wonder if the manager / board will wheel out the same old excusses?

As a blade fan, I find the tranfer deadline day the least exciting day of the season. We all know nobody is coming in, so why pretend that they are. Players will leave, due to KM many many mistakes in appointing poor managers and refusing to spend a penny when we need it the most i.e under NW.

I wonder if DW will be forced to give the same old excusses by the board e.g there were no players better than we already have, the load market opens next week etc

Today will clearly show KM plan for Sheffield United. If he wants united back in the Championship then offers for our best players this season e.g Quinn will be refused. If Quinn and others leave by the end of the day, it proves that KM is happy with the blades being in L1 and has no ambition for us to be promoted.

As a football fan, I think today is great, watching BBC live text as transfer news is released i.e who will get the suprise name, who will spurs bring in etc

I can't stand the transfer window, I can't see any point in it, certainly for domestic transfers.

I agree transfer windows are a joke especially for the bottom 2 divisions, personally i would be happy to see none out none in however a disaster would be 3 out none in and the mention of the word LOAN.

The transfer window should shut before the season starts. All this fannying about after it's started is ridiculous.

The transfer window isn't any benefit for club's like us, other than once it closes, other teams can't poach players till January/ June.

Its made for teams who are desperate to buy and of course, it sparks often desperate bids to clubs like ourselves, which upset our squad with poor timing and mean that we have to 'make do and mend.

I see the close of the transfer window as a success if we don't lose anyone influential to the team at the last moment.

As for excuses, we don't need the TW for the club to reel out excuses.

In seasons gone by I've kept an anxious eye on sky sports, BBC and any other media outlet giving news on deadline day hoping for THAT signing to make a difference but have always been left disappointed. In fact, the happiest I've been was hearing that Stoke stumped up £2m for Michael Tonge! :D
This is the first transfer window in a long time where I am hoping for a lack of activity (except Boggy leaving). I agree with MPJ above that McCabe needs to rebuff any derisory offers and try to keep this squad together. We have a squad more than capable of achieving a top 6, or dare I even say top 2, finish this season. Take it apart and we're on a downhill spiral.

What period are you talking about? Not the PL I hope, the money was there for Neil.

I agree with the sentiment and I think it's true for all but about 10 teams in all leagues.

The years before this since KM became owner/chairman. I've been a blade since 99, a couple of weeks before NW came manager and i remember united always needing a striker to score 20+ goals or a midfielder to replace brown or play along side him. Instead of splashing the cash to get them, it would always be the cheap option i.e kabba, Windas, Rankine etc

That same cheap option may just be about to hit town again?

That is if the rumour on BM is owt to go by.

Just hoping it's a load of bollox

Could go on all day about the transfer windown being an absolute convaluted pile of shite concocted to artificially inflate valuations of players/wages but will refrain on this occasion.

If an offer of £1m+ comes in for Quinn he will go. And I wouldn't blame them in all fairness. In absence of getting Chedder off the list and Boggy (hopefully goes to Blackpool) not being out of the door at this point he is probably our only saleable asset. I don't like the fact but we have to be realistic in thinking if the offer comes in he will go.

Transfers in? Don't expect much but Wilson has been far smarter than previous stains in this position in previous years. He has kept his cards close to his chest and promised nothing. It could be said that if no one leaves and no one comes in that we have already achieved a settled team for the season. Something most said was required at this point. We are doing well, why rock the boat?

Quote from Quinny just now

"Sheffield United's resolve looks set to be tested after the club rejected several bids for star midfielder Stephen Quinn.

The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for the Blades this season, playing almost every minute of their league campaign to date.

However, the former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has revealed that several Championship clubs have had offers rebuffed by the League One high-flyers.

"My agent called me earlier and told me that Sheffield United have rejected several offers from Championship clubs, so whether they come back in for me before the deadline remains to be seen," Quinn told skysports.com.

"There is nothing I can do until the club accepts an offer for me, so until 11pm I'll just wait to see what happens.

"My agent doesn't tell me much to be fair, but I think he said that Blackpool were one of the clubs and obviously they are in for (Daniel) Bogdanovic as well.

"However, they will have to pay a fee for me, so obviously their valuation of me doesn't match Sheffield United's."

Typical United, selling cheap to the first one to come calling...

Rejected a few low ball offers from clubs trying to steal a bargain.
Lets see if they come back with a real offer before the deadline

none of the maestros many admirers kicking the door down then.. i expected a bums rush.. not
