I don't know why some people feel threatened by new fans coming. It's everyone's first game at some point - some will become die hard fans, some won't. That's how it goes and always has.

Only in S2 is increased support for our club a bad thing. It doesn’t fit our Bladey Inferiority Complex.

The year we went up to the prem last time we averaged 23k. The season before that was 19k. This year it will be 26k. You'll have to think 30k average like last time. We got 25K the season we came back down and 26k when we got to the play off final.


Mccabe made a comment after the league one promotion about how we have lots of kids with tickets so i guess thats where the growth is happening.

In the past 3 years, due to the feel good factor and attractive style of football we are playing. We seem to have expanded our fan base and recruited many who may have aligned with Wednesday.

Not a popular opinion, but our fanbase has grown thanks to Kevin McCabe and the boards vision and great pricing over the last 10-12 years. You look at the kids ST prices we had during this time, which brings in the youth, making the most of the large student population, while also keeping adults costs reasonable.
Sure, feel good and style of football helps add to it but most of our core 25,000 would still be there.
Hopefully we can build more on where we are and make 30,000 our core in the next 5 years with or without PL football.

Someone produced some graphical data a while ago, might have have grafikhaus ? that showed that our average attendances starting going up around 2003-04. No doubt this was due to the 'triple assault' season and then followed not long after by our promotion. Older fans will remember that we thought a crowd of 15,000 was good during the 80's.

I think as FATTYFOULKE says, decent pricing and I'd also say a more welcoming environment, it was crumbling terrace and mesh fences before that, must have helped. Although we still have our fair share of nobheads, the general decline in violence and hooliganism, even if perceived, must also be a factor.

Even in the dark days of Madkins, we were still averaging 19-20,000 gates. In the McEwen era in the 80's, it went under 10,000 and one game at home to Palace in 1987 in what would now be the Championship, the gate was about 7,600.

Amazing how many cant afford to watch us all the time like myself. These comments do wind me up to be honest. I can't afford to go frequently but I go when I can but certainly can't afford a season ticket. I have family and kids I need to put first but if that makes me a plastic so be it.

I wasn't aiming to have a go at anyone. It was more a sarcastic "obviously". I don't resent anyone for not being so obsessed with the Blades as I am that they didn't come to see us play Southend or Fleetwood at the Lane. Or that after Danny Wilson narrowly missed out on promotion some won't have renewed to watch the travesty that was his second season.

And, and I'll make this really clear, I absolutely don't resent anyone who can't afford to make every game. Football's an expensive habit and even more so for people with family.

All I was getting at is that people shouldn't be surprised that we sell more tickets when we're good to watch.

The damage it is doing to them long term by alienating supporters and kids who can’t go will have long term implications on their future fan base
The area of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire is a massive catchment area for us

I genuinely believe it will be resolved this summer - one way or another. Appreciate that the Prince might win and nobody knows what his intentions are if he does take control.

From a fan perspective, our medium term future has to be more seats that are more easily available to fans. I hope even if the Prince wins, the benefits of increased numbers and revenue is just a natural business decision.

We should be planning (with CW in charge) to be a better Burnley as against a Fulham.

They did - you are correct, but the size of that construction project was massive compared to what we would do. I believe they put 2 extra tiers onto the existing stand.

Sadly, that is how muhc footie has changed in the last 10 years.

A better Burnley (or Bournemouth) would be a real achievement.

Not just us, but plenty of other 'big' clubs in our current league (Wendy/DirtyLeeds/Forrest etc) who've been out of the Prem for a few years will have a massive shock if they ever get back there.
