In the past 3 years, due to the feel good factor and attractive style of football we are playing. We seem to have expanded our fan base and recruited many who may have aligned with Wednesday.
 

Our fanbase has grown steadily for about a decade. Helped by our stint in the Prem and hopefully another due to be confirmed.

Combined with sensible pricing I believe our fanbase has overtaken that from across the city.
 
I think a balance has to be drawn - I hope the owner(s) remember who were there through the thick and thin in their quest to capitalise on the potential fanbase.

A full Bramall Lane is a good thing. But no jonny-come-lately should be jumping the queue for tickets to (hopefully) Premiership grounds.

I wasn't, but I was at the Burton home defeat the season before.

Does that count?
 
Two club city, already existing support, so that grey area referred to as floating voters, undecided and still willing to be convinced, would be influenced by the team who are on an upward curve.....I wonder who they'd prefer?

Our current success reflects the quality of football we play, so anyone still not committed won't have difficulty in selecting a team to support. I can recall us getting 15,000 per game, and the heady figure of 18,000 was discussed as something we should aim for. Now we're disappointed if we get below 25,000, so a sure sign that improvement is happening. The fact that we might be in the Premiership next season won't have gone unnoticed, so of course we can expect for larger crowds should we go up. As FATTYFOULKE has mentioned, sensible pricing makes attending a game a realistic experience. I anticipate a further rush for season tickets, especially as they're competitively priced, so things are looking up at BDTBL!

I remember during the days of Adrian Heath and McCabe telling us punters we needed 14k average to break even....

Amazing how many cant afford to watch us all the time like myself. These comments do wind me up to be honest. I can't afford to go frequently but I go when I can but certainly can't afford a season ticket. I have family and kids I need to put first but if that makes me a plastic so be it.
 
Someone produced some graphical data a while ago, might have have grafikhaus ? that showed that our average attendances starting going up around 2003-04. No doubt this was due to the 'triple assault' season and then followed not long after by our promotion. Older fans will remember that we thought a crowd of 15,000 was good during the 80's.

I think as FATTYFOULKE says, decent pricing and I'd also say a more welcoming environment, it was crumbling terrace and mesh fences before that, must have helped. Although we still have our fair share of nobheads, the general decline in violence and hooliganism, even if perceived, must also be a factor.

Even in the dark days of Madkins, we were still averaging 19-20,000 gates. In the McEwen era in the 80's, it went under 10,000 and one game at home to Palace in 1987 in what would now be the Championship, the gate was about 7,600.

Jeez, no wonder I've blocked that from my memory....now we're doubling that figure, a brilliant testimony to the club and it's approach to it's lifeblood.

Unlike our neighbours, we've continued to offer tickets at affordable prices. For how long remains to be seen, but the 'suits' should be mindful of empty areas brought about through a greedy hike in prices. Better to have a full, or nearly full stadium, than one with no atmosphere at all.

Does that make us bigger than "massive"? If so what are we? I think simply "Sheffield United" is a nice description :D

There's no pleasing some folk. If you don't go to every game or at least have a season ticket, then you're a 'plastic fan', but then they moan about not filling the ground for some games.

I'm a ST holder who manages to get to the odd away game, so I think I just about escape the wrath.

My Tottenham supporting boss has just bought a season ticket for him and his 2 boys who will both now become Blades.

The existing glory supporters can fuck off. The new fans are a more than welcome addition.

It's funny but when I'm posting on here I try to avoid using 'massive' in my posts for obvious reasons. It's daft, but I find myself searching for similar adjectives such as 'huge' or 'large'.

In astronomical terms, perhaps we're 'super-massive'?
