Like whore. Have one from me. It was an exceptional day that started with utter dread when we went a goal down. We knew we were going to fuck it up and for once we were all wrong.

Bert sat high in the stand behind the goal, it was meant to be for the Leicester fans but half of Sheffield had encamped there.
Behind Bert were Unitedites with broad Scottish accents. It sounded very strange hearing Unitedites who didn't have our Sheffield accent. It still does sound odd.

I'd just had an operation and couldn't go to the Leicester match, so went to watch my lad play cricket - when we went 1-0 down, I had to break the news between overs, so I went for a walk. After giving him the news, I went to sit down and some of their players came walking round, they told me we were 3-1 up. Gave the lad the score with some sign language and settled down to enjoy the day.

And what a day, two results that will stay in Sheffield folklore. The hangover on Sunday morning bordered on legendary, and I can still hear all the Blades singing down at The Sidings and The Bridge Inn in Dronfield now.

One question: Did we ever find out the name of the bloke who went as an Emu? - the sight of an Emu running across Filbert Street was priceless

I was in that stand too. About half an hour before kick-off, the atmosphere was pretty weird. Nobody seemed to know who was who. Deciding to break the deadlock, I got up on my seat and started 'We're on the march with Bassett's Ar-my..!' Cue widespread fisticuffs. Top, top day.

One of my other faves was on 21/4/93 at the sty. Wendy had a tidy team back then but we went there and did our usual 'Bassett' job on them. This vid. doesn't show much (in fact it must have been edited by a fucking pig fan as you'd think there was only Wendy on the pitch). 1-1, Deano scored but memorable for the flares - before the game and after our goal. About seven on each occasion, including one in the North Stand. (I should know. I was, er, involved. ) Spoke to some pigs afterwards and they said it was the best they'd seen at an English ground.
