Do you think the photographer said "Jonesy and Birch, now I want you to think mean and moody".

Definitely 1964-65 season. Gil Reece came to us in April 1965. Brian Richardson had played his last game for us before the start of the 1965-66 season. Doc Pace played in the first 3 games of the 1964-65 season before a stomach illness and Alan Birchenall made his 1st team debut in the 4th game of the season (1-0 win at Stoke, Mick Jones scored). Woody (not in the photo) made his 1st team debut at Liverpool on 7th October 1964 replacing John Docherty (who played in all of the previous games prior to Woody's debut). Woody then kept the number 7 shirt until April 10th 1965. With the weather being sunny on the day of the photo also there is plenty of grass on the pitch so I think the photo was taken in September 1964 but Tony Wagstaff (might have been a reserve for the next match) didnt play in any matches that month and where was John Docherty who was our number 7 that month. Maybe Docherty had an appointment somewhere that day so Wagstaff took his place for the photo call only. The team for our 2-0 win (Birchenall scored both goals) at Wendy in Sept 5th 1964 was Hogkinson, Badger, G.Shaw, Richardson. J.Shaw, Matthewson, Docherty, Kettleborough, Jones, Birchenall and Hartle. Thee photo must have been in the few days before the Wendy game or in the week or two after?

also Blades 1st choice socks for the 1965-66 season were white with two red hoops at the top

Wendy ditched the blue and white striped shirt before the start of the 1965-66 season so I am right in thinking that the photo was from the 1964-65 season
No idea. I just searched for the photo in Google Images and that page was one of the top results.

And we played in a black & white shirt too?
Very funny. I have seen a colour photo of us playing in a home game during the 1965-66 season and there were two thin reed hoops at the top of the white socks. We definitely ditched the red socks after the 1964-65 season

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

Kenning Motor Group on the stand. Did they become Wadham Kenning in later years? I bought my first car from them around the millennium.

I'm all nostalgic. :)

I did my aprenticeship at Sheffield Motor Company on Tenter Street. It was part of the Kenning Group.

Is that therefore the corner of the Old BL Stand and John St behind them??

All local lads they was proud to put that shirt on.
Hodgy and Jones were from Worksop area. Joe Shaw was born in Durham area but moved to Upton in South Yorkshire before joining us. Birch was born in London but moved to live in Nottingham aged 4 (supported Notts County). Hartle was born in Salford. Wagstaff (Wombwell) and Kettleborogh (Rotherham) were born in South Yorkshire. The rest were born in Sheffield

That's what I thought. BL was rebuilt in 1966? Glad someone else is trying to date the photo from the infrastructure.
Yes it was and I am not sure which month in 1966 the builders started work on the BLUT (as you can see in the New Years Day's match against Northampton, the work hadnt started yet). The stand was opened in October 1966
