If they wore pink TuTu's and make up
What a set of 'kin Lilly Livered pooftas turned up today.

I am ashamed to be associated with such a pathetic display from a bunch of people that cannot perform even the basic tasks their profession demands.

Before SilverFox tries to shove his sugar pill up everyone's butt holes, I'll tell you this. If it smells like shit - it invariably is shit.

This smells all too familiar to me.

What a pathetic pack if Jessies we have taking our coin under false pretences.

Mark my words. Football in general is heading down the pan. Sheff United is clinging on the first turd down the chute.

Jesus Christ. We lost 1-0 thanks to one man's mistake. Nobody has raped your children or anything. Chill out.

Not that they have but that us a very risky statement to make dint you think?

I have said we were poor so do tell me what you are talking about?

I think we have been poor for most of my time watching....apart from the early 70's.

I do think the new manager should be given more than 1 game though.

Ask anyone who has listened to me for a few years.....Championship football IS CRAP! All of it not just United.

Sugar pill???? Please explain???

I haven't mentioned the manager.
I think GS has accepted the wrong end of an extremely odious stick.
I am not convinced he will have the tools to make the difference both he and we wish for.
That was one of the most boring games I have ever had the misfortune to witness. We were atrocious. Even the normally reliable Morgs dropped a bollock.
Big point about that though is that despite the set back there was more than enough time to make amends but we never moved out of reverse gear.

The tactics are so negative, the goal mouth action is so rare, the control and the passing is so poor I do not see how speed can turn it around with just a little chat and a gee up for everyone.

The sugar pill is a reference to your propensity to have a go at anyone who posts a negative quote about the blades. We al have our opinions and the forum is often a cathartic process for those of us who have more years than we care to recall of shit, shit and even more shit. I am not expecting us to be Man U or Arsenal. All I am expecting is that players should be able to pass to one another and that we get a bit of excitement from some good wing play and a few chances on goal. Every manager these days appears to forget winning a game for the fear of losing one. Well we play negative shite and still lose.

I do try to be positive and I apologise if that offends people.

I will state again then....and anyone who knows me and my posts will already know this....

I think ALL championship football is POOR, NEGATIVE, BORING AND CRAP.

I will still be positive where United are concerned where I can.

I do apologise if this may offend anyone on this forum!

UP THE BLADES!

:D

Having just got back from the match, I thought there were a few positives to take from it.

What exactly did you expect to be any different to todays performance? Were we supposed to suddenly turn on the style and batter Boro with a completely transformed team? I mean, it has been 5 days and all!

Personally, I was pleased with the increase in movement off the ball and some of the moves we put together. Thought we looked more solid (Morgan mistake apart) and wouldn't say Boro "deserved" 3 points any more than us.

I left the ground frustrated that we'd lost, but not "embarassed" by our performance, nor did I feel conned out of my £26 + petrol.

I guess someone must have spiked my pre-match drink with a "sugar pill" though.

Wow, weve got 2 1/2 years of Blackwells crap to undo, and some think that it can be done in 5 days, unbelievable

Thought there were signs of encouragement, we looked to try and pass it and keep possession and we actually had some movement about us today.

People have to remember this is probably the first time in 2 1/2 years the team have done any ball work in training this week ;)

Personally quite optimistic if things carry on along these lines.

First half was a really good performance from the Blades despite the constant slagging off of the two sides from Sky Sports (Birtles?)

We were organised, never looked in any danger at all, created the best chance (which Ched should've buried) and played some good stuff. We were just lacking a final ball, that bit of a spark in the final third to take Boro to the cleaners. I think Sky had a point in their digs at Boro but - despite some poor passes from our lads - I can accept us losing the ball a few times if we're trying to pass it. As I say, I think we should have gone in a goal up and could have had more with some creative spark (hint, hint Speedy).

Second half, Arca gave them a boost and it was more even. That said, we were still more than in the game getting in good positions but not delivering a good chance. Our set pieces were woeful (Morgan was dead right to have a go at Taylor about his efforts in them; someone needs to tell Wardy to stop floating the ball in from corners as well) and we had a couple of half chances with Monty's effort from edge of area, Ward's drive and Bogdanovich's near-toe miss. They scored with their one chance and it was a mistake from our usually reliable skipper. I don't know what he was aiming to do - the thought to me was he maybe was trying to keep possession rather than hacking it away as per the manager? - but you can't give Boyd those chances.

Disappointed with the result. Happy with the signs of changes to the system. Speed will need to bring in a few new faces and will need time to develop more tactical acumen but there were encouraging signs.

On a side note, Bogdanovich. He's an ex-Dingle and he wears an Alice band so he's got summat to prove already for me so maybe I'm being harsh but was I the only one screaming at the TV 'Get in the f****** box Bogdanovich!' during his stint? He was out wide, too deep, out left far too much and on one occasion walked towards the box as Taylor attacked down the left. He'd only been on 5 minutes. Not impressed with my first viewing of him (have been away and missed other games) and think he needs to improve significantly, albeit only from a twenty minute view of him.

Up the Blades! The only way is up!

i was impressed with turtle today.decent enuf player and we need some brains in the boiler room

Sounds like you would be delighted with a "Lucky Bag"

They were shocking. We should have taken the lead in the first half but we only got one very poor strike on goal. We were pants.

Speed has got a hell if a job to do.
There is no pace, no width, no quality and no idea.
This is going to be a long, long campaign and if you are happy with the fare on offer then your standards are lower than a snakes testicles.

WTTWY

I thought it was very poor today. Boro were visibly shaken and were there for the taking, but no-one on our side had either the gutys or the guile to get at them. That midfield is an embarrassment, none of them can pass water.

umm has been for two years.. only just noticed?.. i think speed has a major task on his hands.. but i did notice us string four passes together on a couple of occaisions today.. from small acorns and all that

The game was so bad that I turned off after 75 minutes. I've got better things to do that sit through that truly dire performance... from both teams.

Equally bad performance from the crowd too; could just about hear the Blades but the Boro fans were awful. Attendance was 14,500.

Totally agree, is Speed is the man to do it, time will tell if I'm wrong.

When Gary Speed was asked at the begining about the team and there being only one change, his honest answer was, 'thats all I have', so to expect anything radically different would be asking the impossible. There is a saying 'if you want something different you have to use different ingrediants', or something like that.

We passed the ball better, but it was an awful game of football, there is no denying that.

The manager has had 5 days to change anything, it will take at least until the end of September in my opinion before we can begin to pass judgement. GIve the man a chance.

As for insults etc, please grow up

I don't think that we saw anything yesterday that we didn't know already - we are woefully lacking in pace, creativity and quality.

Anyone expecting a miraculous turnaround just because the bloke who put the side together has gone is going to experience some major disappointment in the next 6-8 weeks. Speed is going to learn that management is a tough profession - if he's going to make changes he is going to work out how to do it whilst getting the odd result to keep us out of trouble. If he's not going to make changes he's going to find life very tough indeed.

It's going to be a long old season - and I think that between now and January could be particularly hard. Exceptionally so if we get bent out of shape on the strength of yesterday. That doesn't mean that we have to reach for the gin and razor blades though - Reading showed last year how league position in December means nothing.

I shouldn't expect Speed to be beating the players up publicly about how shit they are either - he's got to try and get something out of them. I doubt he's feeling as excited today as he was going into his first game in charge. It's going to take some guts to work through what he's got to get done internally and in public over the next 3-4 months.

Kenilworth, The only thing that should be causing yourself embarrassment is your opinions on Yesterdays game. The only pathetic thing is your response to Speed's FIRST EVER GAME AS A MANAGER.

Grow up and get a grip.

Terrific post that. Bloke's been given a hospital pass with the squad he's inherited.

You are taking it all the wrong way HB. That was not a go at Speed. It was a go at the players and the lack of quality in the squad as well as highlighting how immense the task Gary Speed has. Are you telling me that you are not a tiny bit concerned about this season and the way we have started?

It was the reaction of the players that embarrassed me. I expected a whole lot more fight and determination against a poor, injury ridden side with little or no confidense, paralysed by fear but we couldn't muster more than a couple of chances on goal. Only one of those clear cut.

Ched was like a ghost - he doesn't put himslef about like a lone striker has to, so might as well not have played. Nos was no better than Kozzy (and Kozzy can take a throw in), Taylor has never been a footballer. The midfield did not support the lone striker at all - that's the whole point of playing a 4-5-1 where the midfiled supports the front man - our players kick it long and then stand still.

Only bright sparks for me were Bartley and Cresswell - although Cress was played out of position for most of the game, as usual. Top scorer from last season put wide left - makes no sense to me. Simmo had nothing to do and the finish from Boyd was good - but the rest of them were pants.

Where I am partially critical of Speed is in the lack of reaction during the game around formation and substitutions.
This is where he can try to influence the 90 minutes - Playing 4-5-1 was clearly not working and not creating any chances.
He could have seen how nervous Boro were during the first half and changed to 4-4-2 in an attempt to exploit their situation.
They had a young unproven keeper between the sticks and we did not put him under any pressure. Any free kick or corner was hung up insteead of whipped in - easy for big defenders and a rookie keeper.

Another thing - Yeates is an ex Boro player - discarded by Strachan. Don't you think he might have had something to prove? Worth a try to get some positive reaction. He destroyed Ipswich last game of last season but appears to be out of favour again now.

These are examples of the little things that he could have done to show that he has his own ideas and can manage the situation given the circumstances that present themselves through the course of the 90 minutes. They don't need hours on the training pitch.

By the way - some people have suggested the passing improved in that game. I didn't see any evidense of that. Passing accross the back four when there is no pressure then getting in a panic when you run out of room and lump it into the corner to no one in particular is not an improvement. It shows lack of movement from the forwards and the midfield to give the man on the ball the option. This means that players are hiding and not making themselves availalble. There wqas very little quick interchange of passing in the attaking third. The only one of note was where Ward blazed over after a good 1-2. Wardy apears to be angry at everyone, including himself. He is not making decisions that canexploit his pace - bar the one he nicked the ball from Bailey to set up Ched for his tame pass to the keepeer (contrast Ched's shot with Boyd's and Anelka's vs Wigan).

Having seen all the first four games this season, it is quite obvious and plan to see to all that the squad of players we have now, are not good enough, and it is not just one or two, but the vast majority are nowhere near the required standard and as much as it pains me to say, if we keep with this squad of players then we will go down.

What we need is for Gary Speed is to be savage and completely dismantle the team and bring in some new faces who can kick on and form the nucleus of a brand new squad.

By jove, a dose of reality.
It was pointed out in the summer just how poor we were - amid those rundowns of how much better our squad now is than last season - and the question posed was are there three worse teams than us.
Currently, clearly not.

Cannot pick any holes in that summation Brownie but is it likely to happen given the financial position?
Speedo might be able to get in one or two but I cannot see it being a wholesale change.

Hopefully Calve adn Jordan can be the answer to the full back problems we have.
Not sure where that leaves Nos since I would prefer Morgs and Bartley to be centre defense.

Cresswell should be played as the main target man with another striker next to him - whether Boggy, Ward or Ched I am not too bothered but I want two up front home and away - unless we are playing the runaway leaders, away from home, who are scoring for fun - then they might want to do some damage limitation.

Why no Yeates? Is he injured or summat? As an ex Boro player with something to prove I cannot believe he didn't feature yesterday.

A statement of intent is now needed to support Gary Speed. I was slated 18 months ago for daring to suggest that we must seek a replacement for the stalwart Morgan. We cannot afford to be sentimental. Keep him as a squad player/coach by all means but he may not be able to fit in to the new tactics we all want. Monty and Squinny certainly cannot and the squad is thin on quality. There is no need to panic and I fully support the new management team but this week needs to see some movement. Interesting times!

>our players kick it long and then stand still.
cos they never kick it to one of our guys and so they are waiting for it to come back again

some things from yesterday.

1) we lost to a shit boro side due to one mistake.

2) we kept the ball well at times even though it didn't really get us anywhere it was good to see an intent to pass the ball.

3) ched evans is crap

4) andy taylor makes ched evans look like lionel messi.

5) there were a couple of positive signs yesterday. But the problem is ( as mentioned by others ) speed has inherited a very average squad. And you cannot polish a turd.
