I doubt many were overly pleased with his appointment.
He knew he was taking his dream job at the worst time, but was prepared to risk a major setback in his reputation for the love of his club plus, of course, the rewards that would go with a successful period managing his favourite club.
Yes, he believed in himself and his management team, but it was still a massive gamble.
I remember seeing his face after the Millwall defeat and I thought then that he looked at his wits end. In fact he looked ill with the strain.
I don't think anyone would have begrudged him thinking he'd made a huge mistake, but rather than buckle, credit to him, actually, huge, massive, enormous credit to him for doing whatever he did to get his team to become the well oiled machine that we see today.
Last season's success at Northampton could have been a one off where all the planets lined up once in a blue moon, but it's becoming more obvious with every game, that he is a quality manager.
My only fear now is that at some point, when he's earned that right to manage at a much higher level, that he will go onto bigger and better things.
Such is the measure of the man though, that I doubt he would even look elsewhere until he feels he has got this club back where it belongs.
Thanks Chris for renewing our belief that finally, we have a manager and a hope that this famous club and it's faithful supporters deserve.

I don't think he'll leave for a good long while yet. He wants to manage the club he's served since childhood and take them as far as he can. That's the good thing about having "one of our own" ;) as a quality manager, he's less likely to be lured away.

Funny but that's the last thing I worry about. Seen in the past that happen, Howard Kendall for example but I seriously can't imagine any club turning his head. Not in this country anyway.

Can't remember which manager it was but one once said something along the lines of "there is no limit to what this club can achieve" and I've always believed that.

No-one can tell me winning cups on a relatively regular basis is beyond us, how many semi-finals as a lower division club have we all been to?

No-one can tell me we couldn't make Europe, look at Bournemouth sitting nineth in the Prem. Look at Leicester last season .

If he takes us up, if he takes us up again, what other club could lure him away?

If he's owt like me, there ain't one.

Realistically, where's he going to go? A championship club? Only likely to be offered if we're still in this position in March/April so why would he go then? When we're close to promotion. Can't see it. Only Villa and Newcastle have a genuine claim to being bigger than us by any significant amount.
How good would he have to be to get a PL club? Basically, he'd have to take us into Europe before any of the PL clubs picked him over someone with a Spanish name and accent.

Sorry fellas, I should have made myself more clear.
I think even our Chrissy would find it difficult to resist the opportunity to manage the Brazilian or Italian National Team.

I thought everybody was (once again) ecstatic with this appointment. I'm honest enough to say I thought Adkins should've been given a shot but seriously I think he had a breakdown towards the end of his time and things really went off. Enter Chris Wilder and I just though here we go again but he's proving me wrong and I hope he continues to prove me wrong ad infinitum.

I bloody well hope he leaves for Real Madrid in about 3 years time.

VILLA....REALLY?
Bit like the grunters to me. 300.000 one week. . . . . 17k the next. All wind and piss.

I'll be pleased for him if he gets us promoted, but as it stands he hasn't achieved anything.

Once in a life time a club lands the jackpot with their manager. They achieve beyond expectation and enjoy an extended run of success.
Brian Clough with Derby and Nottingham Forrest, Don Revie with Weeds, Alan Curbishly with Charlton, Sam Allardyce with Bolton all achieved extended runs in the premiership/ Europe etc.
I firmly believe Chris Wilder is our "once in a life time" manager.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this season and refuse to spoil it by thinking negatively about what if it doesn't last. We don't have many periods like this so I'm going to enjoy it for however long it lasts. Hopefully that will be for a long time to come.
