The Blades have confirmed that striker Rob Hulse has completed his switch to Derby County in a deal which could be worth up to £1.75 million.

Hulse signed for Paul Jewell's outfit on a three-year deal, upon completing his medical and agreeing personal terms at Pride Park.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell said: "Rob is a decent lad, and we would like to wish him all the best. He will have a better chance of playing first-team regularly at Derby."

After beginning his career with his hometown club, Crewe Alexandra, Hulse went on to score 47 goals in all competitions for the Railwaymen, before moving to WBA for £750,000 - where he played under former United boss Bryan Robson.

Limited opportunities at The Hawthorns saw him depart the Midlands to sign for Leeds in 2005. At Elland Road he was prolific in front of goal, scoring 20 times in 51 starts for the Whites.

On the eve of United's Premiership return in 2006, Hulse penned a three-year deal at the Lane, with Neil Warnock paying just over £2 million for his services.

He made an instant impression with the Bramall Lane faithful, finishing the Club's top scorer with eight goals, in a season which was prematurely ended by an horrific broken leg sustained at Stamford Bridge in March 2007.

After making a full recovery, the Cheshire born striker made his eagerly awaited comeback against Cardiff City at Ninian Park in December 2007.

Good luck Hulse :)

Derby complete £1.75m Hulse deal

Derby County have completed the signing of Sheffield United striker Rob Hulse for £1.75m.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Rams and becomes manager Paul Jewell's 10th signing of the summer.

"This is a terrific capture for us and am really excited to have added a player of Rob's calibre to the squad," Jewell told the club's website.

"Rob is a player I have admired for a very long time."

He added: "His attitude is first-class and he is hungry to return to the highest level and to do it with Derby County.

Adding Rob to the squad gives us some excellent options with the forwards

Derby boss Paul Jewell
"He knows this is a huge club with great ambition and his ambition and desire matches ours."

Derby have been the Championship's busiest side in the transfer market this summer. However, Jewell is happy with the level of competition for places.

"Adding Rob to the squad gives us some excellent options with the forwards. All of them have different qualities and strengths," added Jewell.

Hulse has scored 92 goals in 289 appearances during his career, including eight Premiership goals in the 2006/07 season with Sheffield United.

Thanks for the memories Rob; i truely hope that you manage to recapture your best form next season.

Just not against us :-)

he isn't the same player since he broke his leg at chelsea, none of the great footballers ever are

This is worse than selling Brian Deane. :(

Hmmm...

Come June 30th next year he'd be a free agent. Rather sell him now and get £1.75m for him, than get nothing next summer.

He's not been the same man since his leg break against Chelsea. Shame though.

And in deed, ha. Biggest load of bobbins I've read in a while. A long while.
Deane was a key player, Hulse wasn't.

It may mean nothing to you lot, but it means something to me, sure he hasn't been as good thanks to those cretins Chelsea but he's been my favourite player since his arrival 2 years ago!!

You all seem happy he's gone, fine, so be it, forget everything he's done for us!!!!!

I wouldn't say I'm happy about it, but come on - would you rather get £1.75m for him or nothing at all? He wouldn't have stayed next summer. Would you rather sell your computer or give it away for free?

He's been a great asset for us, but unfortunately he's not up there anymore. There are players in front I'd pick first - along with many others, and that's the way you have to look at it now.

Get a grip! there is absolutely no comparison.

Sad to see Rob go and he leaves with thanks, but it's the best move for all parties imo.

As for the "cretins" at Chelsea? just what part did they play in Rob's injury? they did absolutely nothing wrong in the whole situation, he was just very unlucky.

I'm sure that a player who had just come back from having his head caved in would deliberately go out to snap a players leg clean in half...

You mean like Brian Deane who you compare him to, going to Leeds?

At least he came back twice and finished his career with us...

Who's to say Hulse won't?

Although if he carries on to be as inept in front of goal as he was last year, I don't think we'd be daft enough to have him back.

DEAAAAAANNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Sad to see him go after such a start in the prem, but an extra £1.whatever million into the kitty to strengthen.

Just hope we hurry and replace him with someone better now.

Good luck to Hulse at derby, it's a real shame because before his injury he was awesome. Nobody knows where we would be if Hulse hadn't broken his leg.

Indeed... and no one can say he wasn't given a fair chance last season.

You say it like he has been with us majority of his career, the fact is, he had 2/3 of a good season with us, nothing more, nothing less.

Good luck to Hulse though,

Sad to see him go but would rather have the 1.75M in the bank than nothing.

Good luck to him... hope we use the £££'s to buy a center mid ir a CB

I should hope we've got more money besides that we recoup from player sales to invest in the team. KB did say they were the areas he wanted to strengthen so I hope that the Henderson "deal" isn't his only piece of forthcoming business.

beightonblade keeps going on about some money coming from the West Ham tribunal that we're yet to see the colour of :)

I'll always hope that the people in charge will be give the tools (money, patience etc) to do the best job they can for the club. Why tie someones hands when they've been asked to do a job?

Football in now a money game and is more about how much and not so much about where that money is spent.

My sentiments exactly; i'm worried that this sudden need for a striker has overshadowed the more important issue (in my opinion anyway) of at least 2 quality midfield players.

The season is creeping closer and it is looking increasingly like the elusive midfielders are going to have to hit the ground running rather then being given a solid pre-season to bed in.

That is if they will arrive at all.

we have needed a good CM for seasons now.
