Hull v U18s

Those that see the U18s more than most of us who only really see goals on Twitter, what’s the verdict on Will Lankshear? Seems to be smashing goals in left, right and centre lately. Somebody to be excited about?

I would also add the question; have previous U18's and U23's been as good, and it's just that the big step-up in our social media team, telling us everything, as it happens, live, means we are just seeing more, or are Neil, Lankshear, Williams, Arblaster, Peck, Osula, etc., genuinely lads that could be major players for the Blades (or for any team that they go on to play with)?

I want to believe that we are sitting on a gold mine, and are looking at lads who will be first team starters and (hopefully) world beaters, that get us to, or keep us in, the top flight.

I don’t know the answer as such but in 2015 Jordan Hallam scored 24 goals at this level and now barely ever gets a game at 92nd placed team Scunthorpe so it doesn’t always translate to men’s football.

That said the top scorer that season was Ben Brereton (Diaz) with 28 for Forest and he seems to be doing alright.

Also, of our 2011 youth cup final team only Maguire and George Long now play in the Championship or higher, with Ironside, McFadzean and Whitehouse(?) the only others in the squad playing in the league.

Age group football is a harsh environment and if even 2/3 of these lads make it at our level that’s a huge achievement for a tier 2 academy.

Final point - since the success with David Brooks we seem to be proactively pinching players who are released from other academies a little older. On that it will be interesting to see how the likes of Lankshear and Peck develop compared to our ‘homegrown’ youths.

Wednesday and Barnsley play each other today too.
Wednesday 1-0 up Cadamarteri.

Just out of interest how many goals does Lankshear have for the U18's ?

Only asking because over on Porktalk they are proper creaming themselves about him.
Apparently West Ham and yes you've guessed it the club that wants Wednesday back in the Premiership more than any other club Man City are after Cadamarteri who has 12 goals.

Are they thinking they might get mega bucks or summat? He's a player in the 18s. They might have a tribunal fee or summat but that's it. He isn't going to solve their problems.

To be fair I think most on Porktalk talk are thinking about him being eventually 1st team material, and just using the alleged interest only to show how good he is.

There's a huge difference between youth and senior. Dare I say "massive". He might be a world beater, I have no idea. But so was George Hirst.

This season he has 12 in 9 starts. Peck’s not far behind on 9.

4 ahead of the Pigs with a game in hand.
3 ahead of the Dingles with 2 games in hand.
United 6 left to play.

Win 4 from the next 6 and the lads can't then be caught (miles better GD than Cov, +27 vs +14).

"And as with a number of the brightest young things in Wednesday’s all-conquering under-18 side, he is being held under a close eye in terms of his development."

This is a direct quote taken from the Sheffield Wednesday Star yesterday.

Is all-conquering third in the table the new nil nil victory?

Haven't even conquered 4th place yet, never mind anything else!

Is that 24 goals in 24 appearances for the U18s? He had a few appearances a a sub after his injury and took a while to get scoring again.
