At the end of the season, when it's looking like we will still be a third division side we need to get rid of of the following

Long.... Never going to be good enough
Mceverly.... Shit
Alcock....Shit
Collins....Finished
Kennedy... Crock
Baxter... Too inconsistent
Basham... Not good enough
JCR... Pound land Franz Carr
Woolford...Shit
Flynn.. Finished
J Wallace... Crock
Coutts.. Crock (and shit)
K Wallace.. none league footballer (ie.....Shit)
Sammon... Not good enough

All the above are never going to get us promoted, we have a manager whose record is as good as you can get at this level but you can't make bricks without straw they need replacing and for once replacing with better, not worse players that's where the serious investment needs to come from.

I would add Howard to that list, but maybe wait and see on Flynn and K Wallace.

Add McGahey, Reed and McFadzean to that list.

They can all go play in the conference together.

Much much much much much much much much much much much much more easier said than done.

People need to want to buy them.
People must be able to pay them as much as we do.
They have to agree to leave.

Or that serious investment part includes paying them off...

There's a lot of contracts expiring next summer. It will leave a much smaller squad.

Hate to say it after all the players we've brought in over the last 15 months, but you're probably not too far from the truth here. I'm tempted to say that Flynn and Sammon could probably be squad players and I'm afraid that I would add Howard to the "too inconsistent" category as well along with Scougal.

BIG clearout needed but the bigger problem is ........ whoo the hell would be stupid enough to take any of them off our hands ?? :(

We are stuck with a lot of dross for a while and desperately in need of a big nasty CH, CM, GK, LB, big strong fast goalscoring striker and a strong pacey winger who can cross a ball. Don't think HUGe investment is needed to get that list though, at this level and some can be loans.

Using some data Foxy had put together, a while back I compiled a list of who would be at the club at the start come the start of next season:

John Brayford
Keiron Freeman
Chris Basham
Dom Calvert-Lewin
Paul Coutts
Louis Reed
Stefan Scougall
Matt Done
Marc McNulty
Che Adams
Billy Sharpe
Diego
Martin Woolford

Much of the dross will have gone. We may have to wait for next season for Adkins to be able to craft a side to get us out of this division.

As laughable as it is, having to wait until next season definitely appears to be a strong probability, but which three teams will go up in front of us this season? The division's so poor it's difficult to say. Wigan... who else? Barnsley? Coventry? I know we specialise in finding teams to finish below when there don't appear to be any but I think we have a bigger challenge than ever in that regard this season. Surely we can only improve. Regardless of the state we're in, we have no excuses because we should still have more than enough in the end.

Whilst I partly agree - I'd say some are more stale than shit i.e Flynn. Could quite easily see a player like him going to a club with less pressure and doing well.

Harsh on Sammon. He's decent at this level and I think Basham would look better in an improved team but, again, agree with the sentiment. We need a drastic clearout to get rid of this mentality that is killing us

Thank you for that valuable and insightful contribution. What time does the nice man come to put you back into the padded cell?

Keep:

Howard (as back up)
Brayford
Edgar
Harris
Freeman
Basham
Done
Sharp
McNulty
Adams
Baxter

Any of the following I wouldn't mind being moved on:

McEveley
Collins
Alcock
Long
Reed
Flynn
Coutts (never fit)
J. Wallace (never fit)
Kennedy (never fit)
Cuvelier (never fit)
JCR
Woolford
Sammon
K.Wallace
Scougall
Higdon
Diego
McFadzean

Leaving us with:

New GK
Brayford - New CB - Edgar - Harris
New RM - Basham - New CM - Adams
Sharp, Done

Bench: Howard, Freeman, Baxter, McNulty, New, New, New

With a reserve list of those we fail to move on.
Obviously that would require masses of investment but I believe that is what it would take to build a team capable of promotion THEN sustaining itself in the championship with a view to move on from there.

Back on topic....

We can get promoted this season with a couple of high quality additions in key positions and our injured men getting back.

Odds of that? Not great, but possible.

I have being saying that for the last 5 seasons . After getting home today , after that first half performance , i could be saying that next season as well.

Dont want to sound alarmist , (and Adkins is a top notch manager ) , this season could go either way , Seen it before at the lane , where promotion / relegation fight in the same season.

This season could go either way , depending on injuries / loans . Just dont know , and deep down i bet neither does Adkins .

Whether they need a huge clearout and huge investment next summer, who knows??? But for promotion this season they don't particularly need to spend that much, two or three League 1 cloggers (who are also leaders) straight down the spine of the team would do the trick. There's plenty of a quality in the squad but those players are never going to do themselves justice unless there's two or three players in the team that will dish out the clogg to allow the better players to perform.

A modern day Paul Stancliffe, Bob Booker and Billy Whitehurst would do wonders for this squad.
