Just a warning about trains for those who haven't heard.

There's extensive track works around Kettering with a rail replacement bus service.

Ensure your routes aren't affected before you travel :)

Thanks for the warning but there are no through trains to London from Sheffield on the 25th. All trains involve a change at Doncaster onto the East Coast Mainline for Kings Cross and it's still a good way faster than the Midland route. 1hr 50mins from Donny well over 100mph average.

More train warnings copied from BU - "The issue is that there is weekend engineering work on the West Coast Main Line on Bank Holiday Monday, which means that until midday a shuttle service will operate in both directions, between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central.
Trains will operate between Birmingham International to the North. From midday onwards, services will resume to / from London Euston diverted via the West Midlands with extended journey times.

This means there will be no direct trains whatsoever between the West Midlands and London, and between the North West and London until midday at the earliest. Trains will still run from stations south of Milton Keynes to Wembley & Euston.

All of this means that Chiltern are running a seperate timetable to the usual one, because of the additional passengers they'll be handling. They will also be "hosting" additional Virgin services on their route, meaning less space for Chiltern trains. This is why people are finding trains, but not via the normal search method.

A quick call to National Rail Enquiries should help, although I would guess that Chiltern trains will be v v busy in the morning due to the West Coast ML blockade. "

Speed freak :D

To the best of my knowledge the trains from Sheffield (well.. from Doncaster, see above) don't use the MK --> Euston line as they arrive in Kings Cross, so hopefully won't affect most people on here.

I did notice something strange with the train booking system, I had to look on several different train times before I found one with reservable seats, when I found one I quickly accepted it and paid for the tickets, thinking no more about it. Earlier today I printed out all the details so everything was ready and was a bit shocked to find they'd allocated the child reservations in a completely different carriage to mine. I checked the website again to try and find some more reservable seats and there were none, so I rang the ticket agent, they found a pair of seats on the same train in seconds and couldn't understand why the website wasn't showing reservable seats as they could see loads, so I think there's possibly an error with the online reservations. So if you can't reserve seats try ringing them.

Bit of a nightmare tbh because I booked a dead early train on the way there and a late one on the way back because they were the only ones showing seat reservations. Oh well, looks like a nice long day out in London :)

It has been hit and miss all last week while I was waiting to make arrangements cheap tickets available on all trains up till thursday but on friday only single one way tickets were available unless you picked the 07.00 outbound and returned on one at 20.00pm. On saturday all were available on any train maybe they are adding extra carriages but anyway I booked my seats I didn't want to wait any longer to see what others were doing sod em they can walk it. I'm on the 08.54 out of Sheffield coming back on the 19.03 from Kings Cross. Why the hell do trains always set off a few minutes before or after the hour just to confuse things.

Well, it looks like sufclucy and I will be going from Dronfield at 7am on a beer friendly coach. Given my general evening habits, being vaguely conscious at that time will be a remarkable achievement.

Make sure they aren't too beer friendly when the plod are around.

They have the powers to send any coach going to football with alcohol on back to where it came from. Can't remember the Act, but it's expressly illegal to drink on a coach going to a football game... it isn't just the pop and crisps coach being boring :)

courtesy of trainline, we're doing wolves to banbury, then onto high wycombe then into wembley. anyone got any idea if that route could be disrupted with the works? can't see it listed myself but wondered if anyone else has hear? cheers

Got a coach sorted last night from Minnies in Stannington. They're opening at 5am for full english breakfast. I don't think so.:nono:

I think there's a bit about the size of the vehicle, but the Act is Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) from year x. Can't be bothered to Google it because I'm trying not to have to think about it after modding on SF for the last five hours.

And I was meant to be going out for a free Chinese and beer tonight too. Oh well, back to cider and voddies and rambling at silly o'clock.
