We sold Murphy for a finite amount of money. (£1.5m has been reported - with a possible £200 000 to follow - though I don't know how reliable that is.) Even with this, our resources are limited - as in they're not unlimited. So where would you spend the cash?

Keeper

Howard has looked pretty good since he got back in the team. Is Long good enough to cover or do we need another keeper?

Centre Half

Bob, Kennedy, and The Beard are on their way back slowly; I think Collins has played well, and K Wallace has done a decent job but if, say, Edgar has to miss a game - or even has to be subbed - we could be in trouble. (It looks like Adkins is not going to play Bash at centre half.)

This is the most obvious place to spend isn't it?

Midfield

There's a lot of discussion of the merits of Baxter and Basham. I think that if we play the ball up quickly the forwards are often 40 yards in front of the midfield. Is this bc as a team we are playing too deep or is it bc the middle two are not mobile enough? I'd add into that that it looks like the Left Midfielders in particular sometimes come a long way inside and move into this advanced midfielder position. Anyway: Do we need another midfielder?

Add into that: Do we sign outright a player or players? Do we get a loan player or players (this has its drawbacks as someone could take us up and then disappear.)

There are injured players to return, but otoh we are likely to pick up knocks.

So, where would you spend the Murphy money?

Defensive midfield, if basham gets injured that means we will have to play someone like Wallace there and he is more of a creative player, we need someone like morsy

I would spend a lot on a quality centre midfielder who could captain the team and release Basham to play at centre half alongside Edgar. The remainder would go on a back up keeper for Howard ,any others would be quality loan players until we trim the squad.

Put it all on red. We are doing ok without him, double or nothing.

Drugs and Hookers.

Maybe a centre half and right winger with the change.

Firstly we were supposed to have money to spend prior to Murphy going or so we were told by 'Phippsy' and co so presumably we have additional money to spend, as well as the GCI ?

I'd buy a brute of a centre half and a brick shithouse of a midfielder one who can score goals and isn't same size as me.

Keep looking dont spend any yet.although i agree some areas are weak. Need to hold on till right players come up nigel will know when that time will come dont let it burn a hole in our pockets

I sincerely hope that:

1. Basham doesn't get frozen out of the team because we sign another central defender and we need more than he has to offer in midfield.

2. Kennedy gets fit and is pushed way down the pecking order because we have shorn up central defence while he has been out.

I agree we should sign a central midfielder - is there a Stuart McCall out there somewhere?? In other words a Michael Doyle with a bit more to his game. Leader, total pro and a facilitator enabling better players to strutt their stuff. Every team needs one and we've not got one.

It won't get spent can't afford to, losing money every year it's the only way we can stay afloat. Maguire last season, Murphy this, if no promotion this season Che will be next season that's why we try and get them to sign new deals so they are worth money to sell.

This is why we NEED to get out of this league, so we can start making money, charge more for everything like sponsorship etc. Don't get me wrong we spend a bit but nothing like what comes in, this is not me being doom and gloom it's the way of the world.

Use it to pay off some contracts and cut the fat out of the squad?

We'll still be losing money in the Championship.

We're losing between £5m and £7m per season aren't we?

We probably are, although if the Prince etc are funding it, then the club is actually losing nothing.

Does anyone actually know if debts are covered by HRH? Bolton are presently £165 m in debt, but funded by some super rich fella in the Bahamas.
As long as these people pay up if the bank manager comes calling then it is ok.

UTB

Definitely a new C/Half who can head a ball, because I don't want Bash and his fifty pence bonce in either box......

Think we should get a CB and a Winger as priority. Who? Well based on how Adkins has worked so far it will come completely out of leftfield!

Maybe invest in some property and go on a nice holiday. I might buy a bit of gold as well.

I will probably ask Bert if there are any sound investments to be made.
