How to beat us

Remembering that match makes it even more incredible that Fleck got a new contract. His contribution on the goal especially was horrific

I like Rob Edwards and Luton for that matter but that tactic is nothing new ever since we’ve played with 3/5 at the back. Always been our Achilles heel in the wide areas when one of our sided CB’s press high and they either go long over the top of them or pass into the channel. Luton reminded me of Walsall in our League 1 days who would constantly attack behind the wing back/sided CB. They’ll do well this season IMO.

We were so poor but that’s because Luton made us poor.
This. A hundred times this.

How often do we get the face in when Roygbiv's post match view from is full of opposition fans saying how average we were but how badly they played? You don't often get one without the other.

Luton did a job on us that day. They knew we lacked mobility in midfield so they pressed us high but kept numbers back owing to the one-on-one threat of Ndiaye and McBurnie's ability to link play, particularly with the ball to feet.

They were strong & physical hardly giving us a moment's rest on the ball. We ran out of ideas quickly & never looked like scoring. The counterargument is that we changed our formation from this game bringing in Macca & Doyle and it seemed to give us more attacking threat albeit we were more vulnerable at the back.

My worry is neither of those is likely to come back and I don't think we'll change formation so you're likely to see a lot of that slow sluggish football next season with Norwood hitting 50-yard passes that look great but actually slow our attacks down with the squad we have.

I don’t think they did us over that day at all. They won because we were shit not because they were particularly good.

Our confidence was at a real low point on that day. We’d been out of sorts and were struggling to play with any real tempo or momentum.

We played Norwood and Fleck in midfield so had zero legs and athleticism against one of the divisions most athletic teams. When Norwood plays if the opposition put someone quick and athletic on him man for man it totally nullifies us and we’re overrun through midfield - it’s hardly a fallowfield coaching masterclass.

They seemed to score out of nothing and then created very little for the rest of the game.

Editing because I sound a bit bitter here, i like Luton, how they play and what they’ve achieved on a shoe string and do not begrudge them any success.

I just feel if we’d played then with the Doyle, Berge Mcatee midfield and Baldock and a bit of belief as we moved on to for the latter part of the season this game would’ve been a different story.
Very similar to our win at Leeds with the Bash goal

I genuinely think Luton will survive. Got a great manager there and team ethic. Remind me of united under Wilder.

They'll finish higher than both us and Burnley
Not a fucking hope Matt , I’ll owe you several pints if they stay up , nar mind finish above us and Burnley

Going to be a belting game next Saturday. There should be plenty of goals as we both keep trying to concede more than we score. (I was pretty miffed that your man Og was playing for West Ham today.)

Good luck (I don't mean that!) in the "Derby Bowl". 😭

The result is meaningless. But would be great to experience something close to excitement. A 5-4 last minute defeat, couple of well earned red cards, British Bulldog in the car park, semi warm pie, anything

I hope Heckingbottom, in his final act as Blades manager, goes to shake hands with Kompany after our 4 nil defeat to a team who so far have been worse than us this season, instead of shaking hands he flicks the peak of Kompany’s cap and knocks it from his head, then kegs VK and runs off down the tunnel.

Aim for Souza. He will dominate you for large parts of the game.

Then gift you 3 chances.
