How the squad is shaping up

Ideally we loan long out and bring an experienced gk to challenge Moore. Then we need a centre half with Jake Wright's qualities but ideally bigger and quicker. Another cb, possibly a young one who might not be an immediate starter but with potential to become one. Then I would like one more player to provide the icing on the cake. It could be a forward, winger or attacking midfielder. Someone who can create something from nothing. A championship standard match winner. We hope that someone from within can be that player such as chef or slavery but time will tell.

I think for the good of Longs career he needs a new club on a permanent basis. let him rebuild his career elsewhere

Wilder already said we have had inquiries about him

Chef or Slavery? Feast or famine?

It's interesting seeing how the squad is taking shape. I'm looking at it thinking who is in line to start and where do we still need strengthening. My thoughts as follows:-

Moore
*Vacancy1* Wright O'Connell
Freeman Coutts Fleck Stevens
*Vacancy2*
Sharp Evans

Subs: *Vacancy3*, Basham, Baldock, Duffy, Thomas, Lavery, Clarke
Possible signings:-
Vacancy1: Ebanks-Landell? Anyone else?
Vacancy2: Holmes, Mackay-Steven
Vacancy3: What goalies we linked with?

I imagine we will add a couple of additional signings later in the window to bolster quality but the above is largely what I expect us to start the season with. Interested to know other people's thoughts.....
My thoughts are that with 2 months to go we have absolutely not a clue what the line up will be. There's probably at least another 3 or 4 players to be added yet.

We will not be signing the popular but slow and error prone EEL. But we will be signing an experienced centre half.

We will sign another winger. Whether it's Holmes or Mackay-Stevens I do not know but it may be neither of them.

The Ryan Leonard thing could run till Jan.

Goalkeeper is a key appointment and I expect us to sign someone who will challenge Moore for 1st team slot not an understudy to him.

I can't think of a more pointless guessing game than this which you have suggested tbh! You're a bit "early" pal. Come back in August with the same question and the thread will be meaningful then.

Leon's been great, but every good game he's had has been when the pressure was off.

Chesterfield whilst cruising.

Last few games when we were already confirmed as up. Only crucial in confirming the champions spot, which was all but achieved when he started banging them in.

I agree that he was quality regardless, and deserves to be starting. Hope he can keep it up.
Rubbish man! He scored the goal at Northampton that confirmed our promotion, not the Champions spot. Wouldn't it be fairer to say he was not fully fit until the remaining few games of the season but he was outstanding in those games - which earned him player of the month and guaranteed us as Champions. Rather than try and spin it like he only plays when the pressure is off? As inaccurate as it is unappreciative imo. Still harbouring a grudge because he played for Wednesday maybe?

It's a bit of fun. Don't take things too seriously.

Thought Leon relaxed us all when he came off bench against cov and popped 1 in at kop end .after that game a knew we,d cracked it.after that Leon was brilliant scored some wonderful goals on run in for Champions.

CW wants another 1 or 2 centre halves.

Wright will get a chance based on performances last season. If he sinks he'll be out the team and if he does well he will play.

CW doesn't mind who plays if you perform you keep the jersey.

To be honest as well as they did last year I see the likes of Wright and Clarke being squad players and only used occassionally. Both are 30+ and neither have either played at this level or played well consistently. They both did well last season but no room for sentiment and handy lads to be around but the extra pace/athleticism will mean their weaknesses will be exposed I feel. I would go as far to say both will struggle to even make the bench by Xmas.

Still need at least 1/2 centre backs and another striker to partner Billy. Clarke, Hanson and Lavery all impact subs at best for me. Ched is the big ?. If we got him fit and firing who knows but last seasons ouput suggests he is a bit of a punt. We seem to have assembled 4 strikers that whilst do offer things none are Champ level for me.

Above may seem harsh but I will be dusappointed if we dont make those key 2 new signings before the start of the season. Wilder does seem obsessed with stockpiling midfielders currently but he kniws what he is doing I am sure.

To be fair, I was surprised and shocked when he came on as sub against coventry at the lane.
He totally changed the game.
After his goal is knew we'd be promoted.
