(Should a bid come in for him)

Alternatively if you'd be happy to send him out on loan with us paying some of his wages or think we should rebuff any approaches state separately.

I think it's not working for him here so a six month loan move somewhere to get some confidence could be a good thing if it can be arranged.

If we can break even on whatever the book value is then I'd sell. Zero point in trying to put an actual value is, as nobody (publicly) has a clue on how much we have actually paid

Well, we don't actually know what we paid for him.

I think the signing can still come good, if he's backed and can regain confidence.

But so far it hasn't worked, so if we signed him for £4m + add ons (not met), I'd accept £3m right now. Sometimes it's just sensible to take what you can get and try again. Years of Championship Manager and Football Manager taught me that.

…but only if we have a replacement

Of all the bad decisions that have been madein the last 8-10 months, Tom Cannon's signing is the one that annoys me the most.

At a time when we were DESPERATE for a centre back following Souttar's injury, we go out and splash the cash on a striker who actually made the team worse.

How poor he is as a footballer isn't news to most, there were plenty of us voicing our concerns as soon as we were linked with him in January.
Anyone who'd watched him at Stoke, would have seen exactly how limited he is.

I challenge anyone to name something that Tom Cannon is actually good at.

Please, please don't anyone say 'yeah but, we don't play to his strengths', because he doesn't have any.

You could upgrade for £4m, so that would do. Would be a big loss on our purchase, but can't get stuck in a sunk-cost fallacy.

Darren Smith is still convinced the owners wanted him and it was not Wilder who asked for Cannon.

When people have rightly said we were interested in him the previous summer before the owners took over (Wilder thus the only constant), he has said it was still the previous owners that wanted him but when the takeover stalled and they were not in place, we had to pull out in August at the end of the window.

Some believe this on twitter/X.

Thoughts? Stop laughing.

Wilder will go down as one of our greatest ever managers post war (maybe 3rd behind Bassett and Harris) but the buys of Brewster and Cannon has literally been 30 million+ down the toilet.

I could say loan him out for his full wages to somewhere he can bag a dozen and build his confidence, then bring him back after Christmas.

I could say that, but I won't because he is shit at this level.

Get him out, on a free if we have to, anything to get his wages off the books.

Seems a bit disrespectful to post a thread like this without there being any interest in him.

If there's no interest that should tell us something.

I don't want to be unkind but it's a ruthless world and he's another player who simply isn't contributing.

The question is do we persist and double down and hope it works or cut our losses and move on?

I doubt we'd get another club to take on his full wage currently

Chris strikes me as the kind of guy who would happily accept a £10 million striker, who he doesn't want, foisted on him quietly. And then play him to please the owners. With no complaint.

In the interest of balance, I do think people forget how young Cannon is sometimes. He's 22 - the same age as Jebbison and Osula, and he's scored more goals than both of them combined. When Billy Sharp was 22, he struggled here too.

He's shown nothing for us so far, but he's scored a decent amount of Championship goals for a player his age. Maybe he needs a loan. Or maybe he's just shite. 🤷‍♂️

He looked lively as a wide forward in pre-season. Not sure that wouldn't be a better position in our system for him.

Ah the all knowing never wrong Deadbat has spoken. It was reported at the time that the AI and Cannon signings were made by the BOARD.

Quotes at the time:

Wilder says Cannon is someone he's tracked for a while and is a signing which ticked all the boxes. He said: "It's a super signing for us. Somebody we have tracked for a long time and known about for a long time. He's a young hungry player, position specific, we needed someone who could play on the shoulder and stretch the game, which he does.

“I thank the board and the co-chairmen for the backing and support”

“I’m delighted with the support and backing I’ve had from the (new) owners (the COH Sports consortium). They have wanted to support me to continue in the race for a successful season.”

Bettis ; The 22-year-old striker was on the club’s radar in the summer (of 2024) but was unattainable under the previous ownership. The new guys listened to Chris and were really supportive of it’.

I get the frustrations with him and I thought he was massively overhyped before he even came here. It would be interesting to see how he performed if we actually played to his strengths and gave him some service.

My thoughts on him are that he’s a ‘finisher’ in the box, not someone who will run the channels etc and we haven’t really given him the service needed.

Early signs v Bristol were that we were going to get more balls into the box which would give him a fighting chance. Unfortunately for him he’s been a scapegoat for everything which is currently wrong.

Oh - I I think probably what we paid for him which is apparently around £4 mill not 10.

El Accounto isn't know for integrity in his opinions...

It unfortunately was £10m rising to £13m with clauses (not many of which he's likely to hit)
