How much would they have been worth in today's market at their peak?

Excuse me . So far, there has been no mention of one Joseph Shaw , a player described to me by Nat Lofthouse, the greatest English centre forward of his generation as " easily the finest centre half I ever played against "

If Dick van Dyke is worth £75 million then bidding for St. Joe would have to start at £ 100 million plus.

A few from my time

Edwards £2.5m
Deane £30m
Agana £10m
Blake £15m
Brown £10m
Jagielka £25m
Tonge £12m
Whitehouse £7m

All calculations made at the top of their career at the Lane, and based on the judgement of seeing all players play in person several times.

A bit more of a sensible appraisal that. To add to that list the players I have seen, Woody, for all his brilliance as a winger, he did have shortcomings in the rest of his game, so £20m sounds about right. Joe Shaw about the same, purely because defenders don't hit the same transfer heights as the glamour boys. But TC, name your price. I'd go along with the OP, somewhere around £80-100m.

What did Wednesday pay for Jordan Rhodes? I know he went to Blackburn for 7 or 8 million and that (like Edwards) was without having played in the premier league.

Edwards was a better striker than Rhodes, so has got to be worth more than him.

Philliskirk scored the only goal of the game at Home Park in the autumn of 1983. We had been completely outplayed that day and really should have lost by at least 3 or 4 nil. But we didn't and Philliskirk headed home his (and our) one chance of the match with virtually no time left on the clock.

At the end of the season we had the same number of points as Hull. We had the same goal difference as them as well. But we had scored more goals than them, so we went up.

That was a very tight season and Philliskirk got us 3 priceless points. (As did Kevin Arnott later in the season, but that's a different tale!)

Philliskirk - worth whatever the value of promotion to the championship is worth. Quite a lot.

He also scored the first goal of the Bassett era, a first minute Fratton silencer on a pissing it down FA Cup match.

We lost.

Realistically, if it's SUFC selling (and depending on contract):

Currie: £5m
Woodward: £3m
Dearden: £1.8m
Edwards: £12m (during his purple patch)
Deane: £9.5m
Agana: £2m
Brown: £7m
Tonge: £1.75m
Jags: £3m
Kelly: £4m
Kenny: £2m
Hulse: £2.5m

and the rest of the notables (Kyles/Maguire/Murphs) have recently been flogged for speculative, undisclosed amounts, possibly far less than their real worth

No mention of Alan Woodward, he must be regarded as high value.

Mention of Murphy.
Bert was reading this morning that he's on his way to Rangers.... for half what Brighton paid for him.
