While watching a few of the ex-United players play last night in the Man City v Everton match, I got to thinking that if Jags can snuff out the threats of Aguero, what a job he could still do for us. Thoughts then followed towards having a player at BDTBL who has captained their country as indeed Jags has done. I then wondered how many more had had the honour to captain England (or any other national team) and also played for us. I got to no more than 2 others from memory.

I'm sure some of you will know of others, please add your list of players without cheating and looking at Google, WIKI etc. My money is on Silent Blade

One word:

HAZZA MAGUAZZA

Future England captain!

Might need re-wording this, in theory 0, because Nags played for Everton when he was England captain.
But I understand what you mean, so il let you off!:p

Jags (England), Cahill (England), plus other who have serious question marks over them Rush (Wales), Saunders (Wales), Vinnie Jones (Wales), Carl Robinson (Wales), McGrath (Ireland), Cowens (England), Colin Hill (N.Ireland).

Fairly certain Nudger Needham captained England at least once and whilst playing for us. Phil Thomson and Martin Peters are two others who did the job before arriving at us.

I'm sure big Davy Gysbrechts captained that superb Belgian side of the late 80s, Axel Smeets was vice captain.

There were just 5 England captains who have played for the Blades, this thread has named them all. Needham, Thompson, Cahill, Peters and Jagielka.

Two England captains have managed the Blades and both were shocking managers!

Dronfield have produced two England captains. Ray Goodall (Huddersfield) who captained 12 times and Gary Cahill (5)

Taken over 35 years to get over and forget about him and then you refer to him twice in one post

I did see Alan " Ned " Kelly , pulling on the green jersey for Ireland ,
Also in the same game Paddy Kenny , and Alan Quinn ( on as a sub ) , also Stephen Quinn .
