What if Primcess Diana had decided to get her own taxi?
What if Saddam Hussain and George Bush decided to resolve their differences over a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors
What if Clayton McDonald decided Rhyl was a bit of a shithole and gave it a swerve.
What if Cilla Black hadn't died, what would she be doing now?
What if Peter Sutclife heard God tell him to be nice to prostitutes?
It's a bit different. Adkins will get the sack, it's only a case of when. Which is what the OP asks.

The outcome is guaranteed (almost). The what ifs only effect the date of the end result.

I'm going to make a different prediction: Adkins will not be fired. He will at some point resign and go to a different team. Hopefully we wi be out of League One by the time he does this.

Not possible for him to get taken by another club?

I'm willing to give him til Chistmas. If we are not in the top 2 - or within 3 or 4 points - then he has to go.

The media and the bookmakers set us up for a fall by stating the obvious and making us promotion favourites,

I doubt if this will affect or bother NA or most Blades fans. It is not a guide to how the bookies think we will do, just the result of our large fan base putting money (at stupidly low odds) on their favourite team.

After the past few years - and a succession of poor managers - we may just have turned the corner. Early days, but I like the cut of NA's jib. Last Saturday's match contained more excitement and interest than five typical Clough games. If we don't get Turner, NA will move on to other targets (Clough's tedious chasing of COG cost us time, focus and signings). NA is obviously giving certain players a chance to be reborn. Clough would have binned them off and replaced them with his favourites.

What is certain is that this season is 'the one'. The financial gap between League One and the Championship is becoming almost unassailable with parachute payments and rich owners becoming the norm. Truth is, Wendy and the prawn guy probably can't compete with a lot of clubs such as QPR, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Derby and even Bristol City.

Hypothetical question. He will get us up, twice in successive seasons (fingers and legs crossed). I can put up with us not winning matches. It was knowing that the game was going to be boring and we will be disappointed before the kick off that got me in the end with Clough.

At least we are going into matches with hope and effort from the players under Atkins. I actually saw Unitedites smiling at Peterborough before and after the match.

The first aim is to get us out of league 1. Lets hope he and we are successful , and he will have a long life . It is about getting promoted this season , and then seeing progression . Sacking managers either makes us stand still or go backwards. Long life for him = We are succesful . Heres to luck , hope , and alot of hard work.

What did you vote in your own thread?
I think we will give him another year should we not go up this season. But I hope, barring a mid-table or lower finish, that we will stick with him at all times to let him get the job done. No point switching managers now, Adkins is our best shot, if he cant do it then the question is who can? I would have been the same with Clough if it wasn't for his horrible traits and negative football.

I'm on it, string. Filling it in on a game-by-game basis as - like league tables - it's all a bit deceptive after so few games. I'll be resuming it after, say, eight games. :)
That's good news. Because as far as I'm concerned, the season doesn't start until your graph is up and running :)

last season never really inspired belief we were gathering momentum , was more we shall get going soon it will come
our last 3 games we turned a horror show into an outstanding win at posh , instilling a real belief these players believe

If we can get 24 points out of the next 33 available we will go up
we will become a fast moving train

I think Clough went because of how far off target he was given how much was spent. From interviews they seemed annoyed about his numerous fallouts with players 'stubborness' when it came to tactics and team selection. At the time I wasn't sure but I've changed my mind as I think Adkins is a major improvement.
They seem to understand the importance of long term planning and I would hope that Adkins is here for the long haul.

I think they were going to stick with Clough until the meeting in London at the end of the season. Don't know what was said but it is clear enough to me the board thought fuck it we don't need this and the rest is history.

This is another footballing myth, to me.

Managers do not fear the sack.

I, along with all mangers no doubt, would love to be offered a guaranteed 3 years pay knowing I'll probably have to work only 7 months to get it, in full.

Generally they don't get the full contractual pay out, there is usually a clause with maximum money they can get and that means also they cannot be working for another club in that time.

I was told that the settlement an ex Blade manager got was 50% of his salary, payable over the duration of the contract to be terminated if and when he got a new position.

His ex.chairman told me that.

I know, but sometimes it's best not to let the full truth spoil the gist of the story. :D
