Most fans are taken to their first match when they are just a nipper.

The vast majority of them probably don't come on sites like this until their late teens or early twenties.

Hence those who have become Blades supporters in the last ten years probably don't use this site.

Simple!

(Moral: Don't trust statistics)

Looks like SUFC's Marketing Director has revealed himself lads!;). "Probably":D

I think it was 1973/74 my first game. Can't remember who against. Can't remember the score. The rest is history as they say.

I was one of those young lads that used to stand at the front on John Street. We'd stand on the wall/railing at the front and wait for the copper to walk past telling all the kids to get down, which we duly did................................until he'd gone past and we'd all get back up again! (Repeat 33 times during the match! )

Oh happy times! :)

PS:Tony Currie = legend!

Me too!! Remember the copper tellin us to get down and my dad saying "get back up", like you say up and down all the match. First game 74 or 75 at home to Leicester and a 4-0 win.

umm ..1972.. sheff utd versus man city.. 3-3 draw.. conned mother into taking me after we'd been in town shopping.. she wasn't into football really but i was hooked.. i supported the team since i was about 7 tho.. i just wasnt allowed to go . i went on my own after that because my mates dad always used to go so the excuse was that he'd look after (all 20!) of us ragamuffins.. and here it is..

check out the state of the pitch.. and currie's majestic 50 yard pass.. alan woodward.. i can still reel the team off.. them were't days {sob}

Aged 8 in 1988, a home draw with Bradford City. Still remember it now.

Id got into football at school and wanted my dad to take me to a game but he wanted to spare me the heartache hed had as a week in week out Unitedite between 1958 and 1979. So I went to see Spurs play a few times with a mate from school. When me and this kid fell out (he nicked my Blue Thunder helicopter) my mum got onto to my dad to take me to White Hart Lane. He reluctantly agreed to take me to a football match but said "If youre watching anybody, youre watching Sheffield United".

I thought it was all brilliant, I sat on the South Stand and can still remember the view back into the city centre over John Street as the night drew in. My dad thought it was all crap. Despite the promotions and subsequent relegation escapes he said to me "I used to watch Doc Pace, Mick Jones and Tony Currie. How am I supposed to get excited by John Gannon?"

My cousin (first taken by my dad in the early 70s - hes on the Match of the Day video behind the goal at Filbert Street when Woodward scored from the corner against Shilton) had some sort of gold season ticket so before the game we got to have a posh dinner under the South Stand and I got to meet John Francis.

1978-79 season was my first. My dad is a grunter but had stopped going long before I came along, so one of my friends dad's took us to the lane when he could. Remember drawing with Aldershot 0-0 in the cup ( then losing the replay !)
We think we are bad now !!

April 91, against Spurs. 2-2 from 2-0 down with two late goals. Loved the buzz.

Though the way the poll is worded, it makes me sound like a glory hunter!

Bring back the old scoreboard! A; 1-0 !!!!

---------- Post added at 08:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 PM ----------

1st game - SUFC 3 CHARLTON 2 (1980)
2nd game - WALSALL

kept going...!

yeah bring back the old scoreboard! It was great seeing the guy bring out a card and walk up to the game that either wendy or Leeds were playing and everyone was wondering if theyd scored or let one in, was like play your cards right.

As for first game, it must have been about 83 at the age of 4.Cant remember anything about it but I know my mum used to order my dad to take me just to get me out of the house

.

We lost 2-1 at home to Bradford in 1988 (Wally Downes sent off after only 8 minutes for doing an X rated tackle. He had just returned from a suspension) Maybe you were thinking of the 1-1 draw in November 1989?

Aye, that would be it. Obviously I dont remember it that well...

My first match was in 1972 v Chelsea. 2-0 win I think. I went on and off until 1975 when my grandad ( a Wed***dayite at the time) bought us both season tickets. The first game that season was a 1-1 draw with Derby. The rest is history....I blame myself for the Blades decline since then as I never seem to win at anything!!!

My first game was a 2-2 draw in sep 1993 against Spurs!! I remember being devastated because my dad had gone to the Wimbledon game at the Lane which we won 2-1 and I had never been,he then suprised me with tickets for the Spurs game the night before!! Been hooked ever since!! UTB

1961 ( I think) may be a bit earlier. Hodgkinson Coldwell Graham Shaw Richardson Joe Shaw Summers (Still probably the best defence I have seen.) Ronnie Simpson and The Doc !!
I remember one night against Burnley when the railing at the bottom of the Kop collapsed. We lost 1-0. Ray Pointer scored. Anybody remember the year ?
We used to go as little kids and get behind the famous 'white wall' on the Kop next to John Street.
Remember skipping school to watch us training indoors inside the old Pavillion. Cup Quarter final v Norwich 60,000 crowd.
Lots of good memories and a lot of not so good ones as well.
Not much changes really when you are a Blade

Mine was against Bolton in 1961 with much the same team - almost certainly the same defence - I thought we won 2-0 but soccerbase tells me it was 3-1

My first match was in 1972 v Chelsea. 2-0 win I think.

We won 2-1 (Dearden, Woody (p) and Chris Garland scoring for Chelsea. All goals were scored in the first 15 minutes of the game. We thought there would be plenty more goals coming but the rest of the game was uneventful. Mickey Droy was playing in defence for chelsea and he was really massive. his shorts looked too tight for him!

>My first game was a 2-2 draw in sep 1993 against Spurs
heh..that was a good match.. i remember their goalkeeper (walker) taking the piss out of the kop for most of the game.. until deano beat him with a 30 yard lob and he had to trudge back right into the wrath of the kop (me included) to pick the ball out of the net:D

God knows who in 1978. I thought it was Millwall but apparently we didn't play them in that period so don't know. Cheap kids ticket on BLUT.

Great thread and great memories. I remember the 3-3 draw with Man Citeh and if that was your first game no wonder you were hooked Super Pig. Citeh had some great players at the time.

My first game 1966 against Arsenal I think. I was the only Blade in the family despite being taken to Leeds and Wendy earlier. There was just something about United in the mid 1960s, I was completely hooked on my first visit. I'm still the only Blade in the family but far and away the strongest character:thumbup:

First game - April 1961 v Middlesboro at the Lane - we won 4-1 and were already promoted to Div1. I'd been hooked well before as my home looked down on BDTBL from its lofty perch on Myrtle Road and my family on both sides had connections with United from their formation in 1889.
The love affair continues and it's passed on to the next generations with the same deep rooted feelings!

>Citeh had some great players at the time.
yeah summerbee, bell, lee, corrigan.. i'll always remembering being mesmerised by francis lee 'cos i'd never seen a footballer who was so ahem.. 'big' before.. really skilfull player.. right diving bastard though :)

I think that was my first game the Chelsea one?
