How important is the Chesterfield game for you?

In terms of football... not very important.

In terms of silencing some of the Chesterfield fans, who have had their cages rattled, then yes, we need to go out to win. They seem to think we view them as their huge rivals, not realising that for most United fans, I'd hazard a guess that they register somewhere below Hallam FC on the collective consciousness.

I'd kindly suggest that Mansfield or Alfreton might give more of a toss about Chesterfield than we do.

Ever since their player did an impression of an electrocuted worm at their place to get Higdon sent off, I have been waiting anxiously to batter them.
Very good point! I'd forgot about that
Dick! That's sealed it for me, ITS IMPORTANT

Antics aside, it was a straight red.

Yeah it was, but that must seriously piss you off to see any footballer play act like that?

Mansfield, yes. Alfreton erm, no.

I don't want to win the game particularly which is a peculiar mindset for a game such as this.

The 2nd leg dates is much more palatable for the side finishing sixth and I'd rather us play MK than Swindon.

As per the Blade above, I'd expect Clucas, Morsy, Ryan and Roberts to be rested which immediately weakens up to a L2 side.

Out of interest why would you rather us play MK Dons, whose form is far better than Swindon's?

'Us' being Chesterfield. I am a Spireite.

We've beaten them three times away since December so clutching at straws I'd hope for a little mental edge with that damage having been done.

Deep down I'd expect a defeat by a couple of goals over two legs.

lets face it. we are playing shite at the moment. we need to play our strongest 11.come out from the off and attack, attack, attack, attack, attack. take some confidence into the 2nd leg and do the same.and the fans need to get behind them from the off and not get on their backs if we dont start great.Lets not let this season be a waste ! UTB

The Scandinavian Blades are coming over for this one, so obvisously a win would be great. Not at the expense of having a not-optimally-prepared side for Thursday though. IF Clough decides to change the entire team like he did vs Rotherham last season, we could have something like:

Play Off team:

Howard
Brayford Kennedy McEveley Harris
Coutts
Basham----- Scougall
-------Done --------------- ----------Murphy
S.Davies

Changed team vs Chesterfield:

Willis
B.Davies Alcock McGahey Freeman
Doyle
Reed ---------- Holt
------ Baxter --------------------------- Adams
McNulty

Hi mate, serious question. Were you embarrassed by your players antics in reaction to Higdons red card challenge at your place?

Who's the biggest cheat we've had recently?
I think our last few managers have stamped that kind of shit out at the lane haven't they? Or am I forgetting someone?

I'd be tempted to rest Holt, but other than that I think both teams are a great shout!

I am sure we have had players go down easy, try and win cheap fouls etc, but I can not remember anyone pulling this kind of weird break dancing on the floor bollocks

The over reaction from the chezzie player was what you expect these days.

Why players go in like that anymore is beyond belief - if Basham had stayed on his feet at PV, Brownie wouldn't have needed to over react also.

Refs are inconsistent - best thing to do is just to stay on your feet.

I dont think its what I expect. I havent seen anyone else all season go off like he did.

This is a slightly odd one for me....My son plays for Chesterfield Academy and my Dad was Chessie fan before he met my Mum and saw the light so I do have a bit of an affinity. That said, I think our best (maybe only) chance of progression is to play Swindon....if you believe that then Sunday is a must not lose game.

I was at the ProAct on Saturday for the Bristol City game and the attitude of the fans is noticeably more positive than that of us Blades. They are absolutely buzzing and cant wait for the play-offs or the visit to Bramall Lane. They genuinely feel they have a great chance, that Cookie can do no wrong and neither can the players.

Contrast that with the feeling at BDTBL and you do wonder if sometimes we suffer because of our stature.

On the pitch, Chessie are a tight unit who like to try and play football, They play with width and in Darikwa have a a good attacking full-back. They do seem to give the ball away under pressure though so If I were Cloughy we would be pressing high.

I don't think their sqaud runs too deeply, so I think Cookie will want to maintain the momentum and will play a strong side.

So, for me we need at least get at least a draw on Sunday,so one or two changes perhaps but not the wholesale ones some would prefer.

....and for Christs sake let's make this the start of a 4 game unbeaten run (over 90 minutes!) !!

UTB!!

Just been on Football Heaven that Chezzie have 'sold 5,000 tickets for Sunday which isn't too shabby'.

I'd say it's a fucking miracle as that's more than they get at home...
