Although not everyone's idea of a record signing we have just paid a reported £4m for James Beattie.

I'm not sure how he will do but we must remember he was Everton's record signing only two and a half years ago at £6m.

Everton are a club with quite a successful history and we seem to be closing the gap in terms of what we can afford to spend.

We do seem to have come along way in a few seasons to be signing such players though.

Let's hope it works out and players like Beattie, Hendrie and Sharp can deliver and take us back up.

:)

I personally think that our squad is stronger now then when we were promoted and i cannot wait for the season to begin.

When you consider some of the strikers that have moved to other championship clubs it puts this deal into perspective (Cresswell, Varney, Eastwood, Iwelumo, Cureton, etc).

And to think, this may not be the end of our spending...

I agree there.

Interesting point SF, but compared to us, Everton are still a different deal. They're establishment, they're respected, they haven't been relegated for over 50 years, they've 'old' money, as well as 'new' money behind them.

It might just be the one Cup they've won in 20 years, but it's still more than us, and their revenue continues.
